Royal Pasta Rumble: Who Makes the Best Mac ‘n Cheese?
After successfully crafting Meghan Markle’s debated one-pot spaghetti dish, renowned pasta maker Danny Freeman has now endeavored to concoct another culinary masterpiece in a royal kitchen.
Danny, known as ‘Danny Loves Pasta’ on Instagram, has gained popularity on social media by showcasing his unique interpretations of Italian cuisine and pasta crafting. This includes creating ravioli resembling Taylor Swift and beloved cartoon characters such as Bluey.
On Thursday, Danny posted a video on Instagram where he attempted to prepare Kate Middleton’s macaroni and cheese recipe.
Before preparing the dish, he was determined to avoid any competition between the two women.
In a different way of putting it, Danny started off by saying he didn’t intend for his video on attempting Meghan Markle’s pasta recipe to spark comparisons with Princess Kate. However, since the video made headlines globally, he discovered that just like Meghan, Kate Middleton enjoys pasta too.
‘Maybe this could bring them together. I don’t know.’
Although Danny didn’t possess Kate’s precise recipe, he drew inspiration from an interview given by the Princess of Wales to People Magazine in 2019, detailing the favorite meals at home for her children George (11), Charlotte (9), and Louis (6).

In Danny’s words, based on what People Magazine reported, it seems they’re making a stovetop version of macaroni and cheese. He started cooking with this assumption in mind.
‘My special dish begins by melding butter and flour, followed by the addition of evaporated milk. This technique lends a richer, creamier consistency to the final product.
Next, incorporate salt, pepper, garlic powder, and Dijon mustard. To achieve the best results, I recommend using a small amount of English cheddar and Dutch Gouda cheese gradually, ensuring that it melts smoothly into a delightful sauce.
As a devoted admirer, I held back from explicitly comparing the two exquisite royal pasta masterpieces, but I must say, Kate’s creation earned my seal of approval.
‘I don’t know I could see a royal child eating this – it’s good,’ he said.
‘My daughter thinks she’s a princess and she loves a cheesy sauce.
You might find it fun and straightforward to prepare a family meal even though you’re accustomed to having chefs at your service, as if you were a princess. This simple dish will make for an enjoyable experience.
Danny’s latest creation comes after he took on Meghan’s one-pot spaghetti recipe earlier this week.

In the premiere of her Netflix series titled “With Love, Meghan,” the Duchess of Sussex stirred up opinions with her unconventional one-pot spaghetti dish.
In this episode, the Duchess of Sussex prepares a favorite meal known as ‘skillet spaghetti’ – a dish she often makes for Prince Harry and their two children, Archie, aged five, and Lilibet, who is three years old.
On Monday, the social media star shared a clip showing him testing Meghan’s one-pot meal.
In the video, Danny shares his honest thoughts on the current most debated pasta dish worldwide. He prepared Meghan Markle’s one-skillet spaghetti, being an experienced pasta connoisseur himself.
‘The dish featured in her latest show, With Love, Meghan, is something she prepares for her children. She stores any leftovers in their lunchboxes. Though she didn’t provide an exact recipe, I created one based on her actions and included it in the caption.’
Danny begins the recipe by slicing up some cherry tomatoes and putting them into a hot skillet alongside olive oil, salt, and minced garlic.
He says he would add an extra step in the method to help bring out the flavours of the dish.
Danny mentions that he typically sautés garlic first for a stronger flavor, but instead, she layers the dry spaghetti directly on top, followed by lemon zest and Swiss chard stems.

Later, he arrives at the debatable section of the recipe, yet Danny subtly suggests that Meghan might have been onto something with her innovative approach.
‘Now this is where it gets controversial,’ Danny says.
She heats water using a teapot, then pours it into a frying pan, follows by cooking spaghetti for several minutes. Afterward, she includes kale and Swiss chard, continuing to cook until everything is properly cooked. Indeed, she’s spot on.
Cooking pasta with only a small amount of water results in very starchy water. This starchy liquid can thicken sauces, giving them a creamy texture without the need for actual cream.
In the course of his evaluation, Danny mentions that his kids might not share the same appreciation for the ingredients like Archie and Lilibet do.
Once the pasta has cooked, she sprinkles it with red pepper flakes, parmesan cheese, and arugula. It seems that my children don’t have as healthy diets as hers because they would definitely avoid all those greens. However, I really enjoy how this dish turned out,” he remarks.
Rounding out his post, Danny gives Meghan’s controversial dish his tick of approval.
He remarks, “This dish cooks quickly, and the sauce has a delightful consistency. If you’d like to enhance its flavor, consider using broth rather than water for cooking. This small adjustment will give it a more robust taste, as the sauce was slightly on the bland side.

‘But I love this method, I love a one-pot meal, so Meghan, I think this recipe is a keeper.’
After fans showed their dismay about the meal that Meghan prepared together with her friend, makeup artist Daniel Martin, a video by Danny was subsequently posted.
‘Next she’ll show us how to make frozen pizza!’ another joked.
Another lamented: ‘She overcooked the noodles. Slimy looking.’
As a devoted observer, I found myself questioning, “What on earth is this dish? It seems as though someone has simmered their vegetables until they were almost unrecognizable, added some pasta, and declared the cooking process complete.
In a different take on that observation: ‘Ultimately, the pasta seemed acceptable, but it’s possible some Italians might have voiced their disapproval when she added water to the sauce while watching.’
Others, however, came to the Duchess’ defence.
‘It looked delicious to me,’ one person wrote.
On another occasion potentially irritating an entire European nation, the Duchess repeatedly refers to traditional Italian pasta as ‘noodles’ while preparing the dish.
When Parmesan cheese is finely shredded as a final touch for the meal, Meghan says ‘Parmigian’ instead, which is a minor adjustment from the Italian term, Parmigiana.
