Ross’ wife from Friends reveals her surprising career change

Jane Sibbett, a former cast member of Friends, gained prominence by playing Carol Willick, the ex-spouse of David Schwimmer’s character, for fifteen episodes on the NBC comedy series from 1994 to 2001.

Instead, she, being a 62-year-old grandmother of two, decided a decade past to depart from her birthplace California, and instead, embark on an unexpected professional journey in Hawaii, specializing in energy healing.

Jane didn’t undergo any formal education for her unique “dancing hands” method, which originated from the guidance of healer Abdy Electriciteh following her organization of casual ‘goddess gatherings’ for women in Topanga.

‘I wouldn’t call it Reiki,’ Sibbett explained to People on Wednesday.

My hands began moving spontaneously as I haven’t received any Reiki training and am unfamiliar with it. I have faith in it and respect its power, but it simply isn’t a skill I possess. These movements were not something I was taught or prepared for; they appeared fully formed and unexpectedly.

The founder of Jane’s Dancing Hands explained: ‘I began sensing how divine or universal energy was flowing through me. At some point, someone commented, “Wow, you’re really good at that! There’s another person who could benefit from your skills,” so I helped one individual, then moved on to the next, and continued with each new person.’

In 1994, it was almost Jane who played Rachel Green on Friends, but she became pregnant with her second child, causing a delay in her casting. Instead, she took on the role of Anita Barone as the sixth-grade teacher who divorces Ross Geller before the birth of their son Ben. This role came later in the series.

‘I have not [watched the entire series]. I confess,’ Sibbett told the New York Post last September.

During the time I was filming the series, I kept an eye on our work, yet I mostly didn’t have time to watch due to my commitment to raising my kids…That’s me, always moving forward and rarely looking back at what I’ve already accomplished. It can be quite disappointing.

Previously, one of the founders of Wild Aloha Studios encountered both admiration and criticism for depicting a character who confesses to being a lesbian and marrying her partner, Susan Bunch, played by Jessica Hecht.

The mock wedding marked a historic moment as the first depiction of a lesbian marriage on network TV. However, it caused significant distress for Jane, who adheres to traditional Christian values.

Jane shared with the Post, “Considering it’s been three decades since Friends first aired – can you believe it? – I firmly believe that the lesbian storyline would receive universal acceptance now.

It’s clear that the lack of diversity was unfortunate, and if it had existed earlier, there would have been growth. However, what we truly crave is a show that is both inspiring and humorous, mirroring the dynamics of our close-knit groups, transforming them into our families.

In a memorable performance, Sibbett played the character Clarice Kensington, a gold digger, in Andy Tennant’s 1995 romantic comedy “It Takes Two”. She starred alongside the Olsen Twins, Kirstie Alley, and Steve Guttenberg.

Apart from being a UCLA graduate, she is notably recognized for her appearances on television shows such as “Nick Freno: Licensed Teacher” (on The WB), “Herman’s Head” (on Fox), “The Famous Teddy Z” (on CBS), and “Santa Barbara” (on NBC).

In her most recent role, Jane played Dr. Elizabeth Boyer in Roxy Shih’s 2021 breast cancer-themed movie “List of a Lifetime,” which also featured the late actress Shannen Doherty.

Sibbett is the mother of three daughters: Ruby, who’s almost 33 years old; Kai, a 30-year-old son; and Violet, aged 24. This family structure was established during her 24-year long marriage with Karl Fink, which concluded in 2016.
