Rosie O’Donnell has traveled to Australia after leaving the United States, following a public dispute with Donald Trump.
The 63-year-old American comedian arrived in Sydney this week to perform two shows at the Sydney Opera House.
Rosie O’Donnell has been living in Ireland since the beginning of the year, choosing to stay there because she disagrees with the political situation in the United States. She says she doesn’t intend to return to the USA and is now applying for Irish citizenship.
She told the Daily Telegraph on Monday that she’s nearly finished applying for Irish citizenship, as her grandparents’ heritage is all that’s required for approval.
Getting my Irish citizenship feels really important, particularly with Trump repeatedly suggesting he might revoke my current one.
O’Donnell has dire predictions for the future of American politics.
‘What’s coming is fascism in the United States, pure and simple,’ she told the publication.
The idea of Christian white nationalism is fundamentally at odds with democracy and the principles of a democratic republic – it doesn’t reflect our values as a nation.
She added: ‘I feel that if we let them continue on, we are doomed as a democracy.’
This follows O’Donnell’s admission that even her therapist is frustrated with her intense and ongoing dislike of Donald Trump.
Speaking with Nicolle Wallace on MSNBC, she questioned why others don’t seem as concerned about the president as she is.
O’Donnell explained that the full impact of recent events hasn’t been felt yet, referencing the current political situation.
‘And if he’s not stopped now, we have lost our country.
‘I don’t know, Nicolle, how it is that some people cannot see it.
‘My therapist said, “Why are you so upset?”
‘And I said to her, “Why are you not?”‘
Since moving to Ireland almost nine months ago, the former host of The View hasn’t stopped voicing her criticism of the president.
Trump recently pondered the possibility of revoking her citizenship.
Rosie’s feud with Trump, at this point, goes back more than a decade.
O’Donnell initially voiced her disapproval of the former ‘Apprentice’ host back in 2006 on an ABC talk show, criticizing his infidelity.
Weeks later, in an interview with People magazine, Trump responded to criticism by calling Lawrence O’Donnell “out of control.”
The conflict carried over into Trump’s fast-paced first campaign, and he mentioned O’Donnell during the debates for the Republican nomination.
Megyn Kelly, a Fox News host, was pressing him on his past use of offensive language towards women, and he responded by saying he’d only used such terms when referring to Rosie O’Donnell.
O’Donnell responded by tweeting, ‘Try explaining that 2 ur kids’.
The two have been at odds since.
O’Donnell was The View’s moderator from 2006 to 2007.
She came back in 2014, but left again after just five months, citing personal problems as the reason.
