Roseanne Barr Slams J.K. Rowling: ‘She Didn’t Support Me, So F–k Her!’

In simpler terms, Roseanne Barr, who was the main character in the ABC sitcom “Roseanne,” was dismissed from the show due to controversial posts she made on social media. Seven years later, instead of distancing herself from those comments, Barr continued to express similar views and even targeted other individuals, including a specific person.

J.K. Rowling, who wrote the popular fantasy series “Harry Potter” (adapted into eight films from 2001 to 2011), has a new controversy surrounding her. However, unlike Rowling, Roseanne Barr’s comments on the LGBTQ+ community have also strained relationships, with Barr not only directing criticism at herself but also towards Disney CEO Bob Iger. Despite both facing similar backlash, Barr made it clear that this didn’t bring them together as allies.

During the interview, Barr referred to certain individuals as both “racist” and “unintelligent.” She elaborated by saying, “I had been haunted by nightmares about not returning to that show, but it seemed as if God intervened and awakened me.

Sara Gilbert brought up the topic of Rowling, following Barr’s disapproval towards integrating LGBTQ+ themes into the Conners’ household. “Sara Gilbert added, ‘It seems the focus now is on children exploring their gender fluidity, and I envision Darlene returning with her gender-fluid child, who often wears dresses. And I remember thinking, ‘Oh dear,’” she recounted. She expressed her desire to create a storyline involving a Black daughter character.

Regarding Rowling, I don’t feel she’s on my side, so I can’t support her. She is a successful artist, and yes, she faced criticism because of her gender and common sense, but there are other women who have fought for the same causes and actually managed to get that law banning puberty blockers for transgender minors in the U.K. passed. It’s those women we should be celebrating, not J.K. Rowling.

ABC made significant changes to the show afterwards, ending it with the main character’s death from an off-screen overdose on opioids. The series initially received high ratings, but failed to surpass the popularity of the Roseanne revival. Barr shared her feelings, stating, “I don’t feel vindicated.” Instead, she felt “angry that they took away my rights and killed me off. They didn’t kill J.K. Rowling’s characters. It was foolish and short-sighted, and I don’t understand how they explain this to their shareholders for canceling me before any sponsor had withdrawn.

Roseanne Barr Also Called Out Bob Iger

Regarding Disney executive Bob Iger, who initially brought her back to the set of Roseanne but later fired her, Barr commented, “I’m not sure if he truly understands himself when he looks in the mirror. And then he gets Jimmy (Jimmy Kimmel) to label me as racist. Didn’t Kimmel do blackface, though?” She was making a point about Kimmel’s joke regarding ABC’s lineup: “Do you remember last year when we all got excited for Take Two, The Kids Are Alright, Roseanne, and Speechless? Well, canceled, canceled, racist, canceled.

In over two decades, Bob Iger has never commented on the humor I use or don’t use during the upfronts. Just as before, I hope things go well for Roseanne.
