Rose Ayling-Ellis discovers incredible family connection to EastEnders during Who Do You Think You Are after starring on the soap – as fans rave it was the ‘best episode of the series’
As a spectator and admirer of Rose Ayling-Ellis’ remarkable journey, I must say it’s truly heartening to witness such a vibrant spirit unfold her roots and family history on “Who Do You Think You Are?”
As I delved deeper into my family history for the latest episode of Who Do You Think You Are, I stumbled upon a fascinating link to the iconic British soap, EastEnders – a connection I never could have imagined! It was truly an incredible discovery that has added depth and richness to my understanding of my own roots.
In the BBC soap opera, the 29-year-old actress discovered on-screen that her distant ancestor, Agnes Chilton, was the proprietress of a pub.
Rose had a meeting with a local historian based in Birmingham, who shared additional details about Agnes. In the closing years of the 1800s, Agnes and her spouse operated a pub known as “the Sandy Hill Tavern” together.
Rose found out that it was Agnes who managed almost everything at the pub, to which she replied: ‘She handles it all. I really admire that.’
Later on, the historian displayed an old newspaper article to Rose, reporting that Alfred and Agnes had been charged for striking a patron at their recently opened pub, The Queen’s Arms, in the past.
Agnes had intervened to defend Alfred during the incident at their establishment.
As a lifestyle connoisseur, I can tell you that it’s somewhat reminiscent of the drama-filled days at the Queen Victoria pub, just like being part of the cast on EastEnders!
In that particular pub, people were constantly hitting each other. I even threw a drink at someone’s face. It seems like violence runs through my veins.
Rose expressed, “It’s truly an honor to discover so much about this remarkable woman. My admiration for her knows no bounds.”
Audience members enjoyed the show immensely and couldn’t help but express their appreciation for Rose, referring to her as a ‘pleasure’ and even going as far as proclaiming the episode in question as the top-notch gem of the entire series.

People took a liking to Rose when she made her debut on Strictly Come Dancing in 2021, dancing with Giovanni Pernice as her partner.
The star was born deaf and has gone on to take on groundbreaking roles on the soap, dancing show and more recently as part of the presenting team for Channel 4’s Paralympics coverage.
While appearing on BBC’s Strictly, her partner Sam Arnold, whom she had been with for a long time, was always present at the live performances and during rehearsals.
After a year since the event, it appears that Rose parted ways with Sam in a friendly manner, ending their eight-year relationship.
During her “Strictly” tour commitments following her win at the end of 2021, a significant part of the reason for this was likely due to the time she spent away from her partner.
As reported by The Sun, the couple has separated, and Sam appears to be finding comfort in his friend and children’s TV presenter Aimee Campbell-Nottage.
The source mentioned that since Strictly, Rose has been deeply engrossed in her job, having received numerous job opportunities.
