Rose Ayling-Ellis recently joined others in criticizing Bali, calling it ‘overrated,’ following similar comments made earlier this year by Molly Mae Hague’s sister.
The 30-year-old actress, who used to be on EastEnders, was shocked by how much trash she saw at the popular vacation spot when she went there.
Rose, who was the first ever deaf contestant to appear on Strictly in 2023, said: ‘It’s overrated.’
She continued: ‘I went to Bali with this ideal and it was not what I expected at all.
‘There was plastic and rubbish everywhere.’
She explained on the Travel Secrets podcast that she didn’t feel a connection with other travelers who were focused on spiritual experiences.

Bali has become famous as the stunning location for vacation photos shared by celebrities and social media influencers.
Rose isn’t the only well-known person to criticize the place; Molly-Mae Hague’s sister, Zoe, has spoken negatively about it before.
She announced to her followers in June that she left a location less than 48 hours after arriving, because it hadn’t met her expectations.
Zoe had planned the trip with her husband Danny to celebrate their first wedding anniversary.
Even though they had a large room with an ocean view at the luxurious Radisson Blu hotel, they chose to check out early and fly to Dubai.
Zoe pointed out that Bali often appears more glamorous online than it is in reality. Influencers tend to showcase a luxurious side of the island, even though it’s still a developing country.
Fans criticized a recent video where she shared her thoughts on Bali, saying that the island is often portrayed unrealistically. She believes this is because many influencers only showcase the luxurious aspects of their trips, rather than a more authentic view.
Before enlisting, I traveled through Southeast Asia for five months, visiting places like Thailand, Vietnam, China, and Hong Kong. I saw a lot during that time, but Bali feels different – it’s a unique experience.

We heard Uluwatu is one of the best spots to visit, and honestly, if this is what the better places are like, I can’t imagine how amazing the rest must be.
‘I wasn’t going to sit down and say anything, but people want to know.’
Someone pointed out that it’s surprising to see this, considering you’ve been to that part of the world before. They explained that while luxury resorts look great online, it’s still a developing region where many people struggle with poverty.
I was so sorry to hear this person didn’t enjoy Bali! As someone who absolutely loves it there, I always try to remind people that while it’s breathtakingly beautiful and the people are amazing, it’s important to remember Bali isn’t a wealthy place like Dubai. It’s easy to forget that and have unrealistic expectations. I hope they have a great time in Dubai, but I’ll always be drawn back to the magic of Bali!
Someone else asked for more details, writing, ‘Could you explain what you didn’t like about it? You didn’t say specifically what the problem was. I visited last year and really enjoyed it!’
