Rosamund Pike’s “suspenseful” new thriller debuts with 100% Rotten Tomatoes rating

Rosamund Pike is back with new thriller Hallow Road, and early reviews are positive.

The movie begins with the parents, played by Pike and Matthew Rhys, getting a late-night phone call. Their daughter has been involved in an accident where she struck a passerby unintentionally.

As a fervent admirer, I rush alongside my partner to reach the location ahead of others, hoping to beat them to it. However, it swiftly becomes apparent that someone else might have already arrived on the scene. To make matters worse, the disheartening news ignites a chain reaction of shocking revelations that could shatter our family’s harmony for good.

The movie titled “Hallow Road” won’t be available until May, but it was previously screened at SXSW 2025. Critics who watched it have already shared their thoughts, and out of 10 reviews collected so far, the film boasts a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Here’s what some of the reviews have said:

The Hollywood Reporter

At its core, this film is primarily focused on two characters. While it could have been simply an exercise in building tension, what sets it apart is the intense performances by Rosamund Pike and Matthew Rhys. They take this suspenseful thriller to new heights, as its psychological aspect evolves into a more complex, darker exploration that borders on mythical territory.

AV Club

Hallow Road truly shines in its simplest form. By focusing on Pike and Rhys, primarily through a windshield perspective, and limiting cuts to tight, stationary shots from within the car, the duo effectively carries the movie. Occasionally, some visually impactful moments are introduced to startle us, but these work because the journey up until that point has been so authentically tense.

ScreenRant

As a captivated viewer, I found that “Hallow Road” held my attention for its 80-minute duration without ever outstaying its welcome. The film’s powerful storyline continues to resonate within me long after the credits rolled. Even now, I find myself pondering over the vivid scenes and emotions evoked during the movie. Regrettably, many stories fail to delve into the intricate nuances of parent-child relationships, but “Hallow Road” manages to touch upon the difficult questions we seldom ask or confront in our daily lives.

Dread Central

William Gillies’ script offers an engaging, exhilarating, and slightly peculiar experience. It’s like solving an intricate puzzle, with details unveiled at perfectly timed moments to keep viewers hooked on this chilling, single-location horror production. The narrative progresses swiftly, making every minute count as it crafts a compelling family dynamic and peels back the layers of its numerous mysteries. The film’s imaginative cinematography and expert sound design elevate it beyond mere dialogue in a car.

The movie titled “Hallow Road” is the work of director Babak Anvari, who was also behind the 2019 horror film “Wounds”, which our team at Digital Spy greatly admired.

Hallow Road will be released in UK cinemas on May 16.
