Rory Feek Breaks Silence: Not Hopie’s Bio Dad After DNA Reveal!

Country artist Rory Feek has addressed the news shared by his daughter, Hopie Feek, about him not being her biological father.

On Monday, I, an over-the-moon fan, found myself reading a heartfelt blog post penned by the legendary musician, now 59. In it, he expressed that recent news and medical test results don’t alter anything for him, before declaring, “I adore you just as my daughter, and I will always do so.

He further explained that his affection for Hopie doesn’t stem from the fact that they share the same bloodline. Instead, he loves her because she is like a child to him, even though in a technical sense, she isn’t.

Nevertheless, Hopie, aged 36, expressed deep disappointment through a sequence of posts on her Instagram account on Wednesday, voicing concerns about his revelation of private family matters and what she perceived as public shaming towards her mother.

Hopie, born in 1988, and her elder sister Heidi, aged 38, are daughters of Tamara Gillmor. Tamara’s marriage to Rory Feek took place in 1985 and ended with a divorce in 1992.

This past week, Hopie, brought up by Rory, disclosed on social platforms an unexpected revelation to her audience, stating that a 23andMe DNA test had validated her long-held assumptions.

The news emerges during Rory’s continuous disagreement with Hopie and his sister Heidi, who have alleged that he involved Indiana in a ‘harmful’ or ‘abusive’ religious group.

In a post named ‘A Different Dad’, Rory shared that he was hoping, almost simultaneously, to hear from either Hopie or Heidi; just as his phone started ringing, he noticed it was Hopie calling.

As a lifestyle expert, let me share a personal moment: It had been an entire year since I last encountered either of these young ladies, and our conversations were limited to brief exchanges at best. To receive a call from Hopie, therefore, was like finding a solution to a long-standing wish.

The musician continued, expressing, ‘I was clueless about the topic she wished to discuss. Frankly, it made no difference to me. All I desired was to be near her. To gaze into her eyes and have hers meet mine, with the hope that she might understand we aren’t adversaries. And that I harbor a deep affection for her.’

Looking back, it’s hard not to feel like my wish has come to pass, albeit in a manner I could never have foreseen, he noted.

The two went on to meet at a cemetery where Rory’s late wife Joey, who passed in 2016, is buried. 

Later on, Hopie shared with him that over the last two years, she and Heidi had been drawing closer to their biological mother, whom they’d managed to rekindle a relationship with.

Rory learned from his daughter that she had taken a ’23 & Me’ test which revealed that another man is her biological father, rather than Heidi and Indiana.

Rory said he was ‘not expecting to hear that.’

Hope shared with him, her voice trembling, that her mother revealed they had another person involved, and she believed he might have been her biological father.

Later, Hopie made it clear to Rory by saying, “You’re not my dad,” revealing that she had known this for some time but felt the need to share it now as she couldn’t hold it as a secret any longer.

Meanwhile Rory said that although he didn’t know, the news didn’t ‘completely surprise’ him.

After completing a tour in the Middle East as a Marine, he shared the tale of his subsequent journey back to the U.S. from Japan, and mentioned that during their challenging marital period, she informed him about her pregnancy.

Rory assumed Hopie was born early since she came prior to her expected delivery date. However, he found out from the doctor that she wasn’t really premature; instead, she was past her due date.

“I explained to him that she absolutely couldn’t be late, as I hadn’t returned from Japan until the second week of January… After a brief silence, during which we both seemed uneasy, the doctor spoke up and said, ‘I’m at a loss for words, except… this baby is overdue by quite some margin.'”

“I made it clear to him that she couldn’t possibly be late because I only got back from Japan in early January… After a moment of awkwardness, the doctor said, ‘I’m not sure what else to tell you other than… this baby is well beyond its due date.'”

3. Casual Version:

“I let him know that she couldn’t possibly be late because I just got back from Japan in early January… After a few seconds of awkward silence, the doc said, ‘I don’t really know what else to say other than… this baby is way overdue.'”

He later asked her mother if she was his biological daughter, and was told that she was.

In 1992, four years following Hopie’s birth, Tamara’s marriage with him disintegrated, leading to a divorce. Subsequently, Rory took on the responsibility of raising the daughters. He mentioned that they met their biological mother merely twice after she departed during their childhood years.

In reminiscing, I found myself reflecting on a heartfelt instance with Hopie: “I expressed to her that it made no difference to me – neither the recent news nor the blood test results. What mattered was constant – my affection for her as my daughter, a bond that would never waver.

Later on, Hope shared with him that she had been communicating with her biological dad, and their relationship was slowly blossoming, as she displayed a picture of the gentleman to him.

While sitting next to my thirty-six-year-old daughter on a park bench, she showed me a photo from her phone – it was her with a man I hadn’t met before, but he turned out to be her true father. Life can be quite mysterious,” Rory penned about the event.

Later on, he reminisced about the two instances when their mother visited them as they were growing up. He mentioned that her initial visit occurred when Hopie and Heidi were around 7 and 9 years old. By this time, she had already given birth to another child. Although the girls were eager to meet their mom, they described it as more like meeting an aunt or someone they’d heard about, rather than having a personal connection with her.

Another visit happened when they were in high school, after he was already with his late wife Joey.

In due time, she had a few children and appeared content, living a life she could be proud of. Fortunately, I also enjoyed this blessed state.

He further expressed, ‘I find myself feeling disheartened and saddened by discovering this after thirty years. However, what truly pains me most is Hopie.’

‘I recognize this will be challenging for her. It’s tough when something seems incomprehensible, especially when it challenges deeply-held beliefs about oneself that have been instilled since childhood.’

Concerning his former partner, he penned: ‘Additionally, I feel a deep sorrow for Hopie’s mother. Realizing she bore this secret for so many years. I can merely conjecture about the difficulty it presented and how terrifying it must have been for her to eventually reveal the truth.’

Looking back on all these years, I no longer blame her mother for not disclosing this to Hopie, or to me. I believe she must have had valid reasons for doing so. As a young person herself, I choose to assume that she did the best she could with the resources and personality she possessed at the time.

In my elated excitement, I can’t help but express my profound gratitude for the opportunity to continue mastering the art of fatherhood as I advance in years.

Hopie shared her frustration with the blog post on her Instagram.

She said her only request during her conversation with Rory was to ‘be kind and not shame my mom.’

Today, she disclosed her personal past in her blog, which I find quite disheartening,” she expressed. “I chose to reveal my experiences as I could no longer bear the burden alone. Although I am not accustomed to public exposure, due to Rory’s popularity, my private life is frequently used as material for his followers, who can sometimes be unkind online.

She expressed later on that she regretted disclosing to Rory her bisexuality because she believes he exploited this private detail for book sales.

‘Initially, when I confided in him privately about my bisexuality, he reacted negatively and critically. Surprisingly, he later persuaded me to allow him to include it in his book. Looking back, I wish I hadn’t agreed. When the book was published, he received overwhelming praise, while I faced the opposite – more hate from his readers. The words he wrote about me still cause pain.’

In my 2018 memoir, ‘Once Upon a Farm’, I included an audio excerpt featuring me discussing her sexuality, as part of the narrative.

She expressed, ‘Starting now, I aspire to have control over and share the tales that are mine. My goal is to progress, discover joy with those who cherish me, distancing myself from the negativity on the internet.’

When she disclosed the astonishing fact that Rory isn’t her biological father, Hope expressed it as follows: ‘Many of you are familiar with me mainly because of my family and their history. Now, I understand why I’ve sometimes felt out of sync, and it’s all because of this.’

‘So I took a 23andMe DNA test and I got the results I never knew I needed.’  

Later on, Hope posted a photo showing her and her real father embracing and grinning for the lens. She added, “It seems I’ve found my father, not the one people are familiar with.

Over the past six months, she revealed that they have grown very close and learned a lot about one another. She found it peculiar because they share many similarities. (BC refers to this person.)

Hopie confessed that she had been tracking down BC online, explaining further: “In less than a day after locating him on Facebook and sending him a message, he was standing at my doorstep, simply wanting to give me a warm embrace and make our acquaintance.

‘I’ve never experienced unconditional love like that before.’

She then continued: ‘There’s so much more love to my story than I ever thought there was.

Last year, I managed to rekindle our relationship with my mother, and I must say, she is simply amazing. It’s heartening to discover how deeply she cherishes me and longed to be involved in my journey, though circumstances prevented her from doing so extensively…

Hope expressed: “I’ve found a father whom I didn’t know existed, but he instantly embraced me and is thrilled to address me as his daughter.

Afterward, she expressed her feelings as follows: ‘I’m genuinely thankful for everything that has happened and the new individuals I’ve met, as well as the fresh family who appreciates me just as I am.’

Rory remarried in 2002, and started a successful music duo with new wife Joey.

Following Hopie’s revelation about her bisexuality, Rory confessed in 2018 that it was difficult for him to embrace this aspect of her identity, given his religious beliefs as a Christian.

Currently, news outlets are buzzing about a musician and his oldest child because they’ve publicly alleged an unsettling situation: they’re barred from visiting their 10-year-old sister, who has Down Syndrome, allegedly by the musician himself.

It was his oldest daughters who initiated a lawsuit against him, disclosing that Rory had been residing within a rural, faith-based society linked to Homestead Heritage – a group that has faced criticism following allegations of child sexual abuse from at least one of its members.

On Instagram, Heidi asserted that her father entrusted their 10-year-old sister with Down Syndrome to a group known for physically and sexually abusing children.

About three weeks past, Rory published a blog entry where he justified his choice and provided an abundance of insights into the lifestyle of his family living on their farm in middle Tennessee. He mentioned that they often engage in activities like baking, preserving foods through canning, and pickling, as well as occasionally enjoying games of pickleball.

Indy continued to enjoy the farm life in Indiana, as she had a blast home-schooling in the fifth grade alongside Rebecca, whom she now affectionately refers to as ‘Mama’ for the past six weeks.

The post ended with an appeal to keep his youngest child away from the controversy, as he asserted that his older children were causing her the most harm.

Last but not least, it’s worth noting that unlike the reasons often cited, the one who is suffering the most in all of this is actually our youngest child.

Since legal proceedings are still underway, it’s important to note that specifics about the filing are kept private due to Indiana being a minor.
