Rolling Stones’ new album includes a twist fans didn’t expect

Okay, so The Rolling Stones are releasing a new album called Foreign Tongues on July 10th! It’s gonna have 14 tracks, which is awesome, but get this – they’re covering Amy Winehouse’s “You Know I’m No Good”! Seriously, that’s a surprise I didn’t see coming, but I’m super curious to hear how they do it.

So, I was watching Jimmy Fallon the other night, and Ronnie Wood was on. Jimmy was reading the back of the new album’s vinyl, and that’s how we found out about the cover art! It turns out the song originally came out on Amy Winehouse’s Back to Black album way back in 2006. Pretty cool to see them bringing that track back!

The band previously collaborated with the singer in 2007 at the Isle of Wight Festival, where she joined them onstage to perform “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg.” Given that the singer was known for her blues-rock style, the band’s cover of one of her popular songs feels like a perfect match.

Rolling Stones will cover Amy Winehouse on new album, Foreign Tongues

Fans will have to wait for the full album to hear most of the new music, but the band has already shared two songs. One, called “Rough and Twisted,” was released under the name The Cockroaches – a pseudonym the band has used before when playing live.

I was so excited when the new single, “In the Stars,” dropped this week! The guitar work is really great, and it starts with pretty clean vocals. Honestly, the song gets better as it goes – you can really hear Mick Jagger coming into his own. It’s not their absolute best song ever, but it definitely shows they’re still on top of their game and sounding fantastic!

The album was quickly recorded and mixed in under a month, with Andrew Watt handling production. Watt also produced the Rolling Stones’ 2023 album, Hackney Diamonds, which surprised many with how good it was. Expectations suggest a similar positive reception for this new album, Foreign Tongues.

The Rolling Stones haven’t said anything about touring to promote their new album, and honestly, that’s not really why they tour anymore. They could easily go on tour playing their classic hits, and people would love it. The good news is, when they do release new music, it’s been really well-received lately.
