As a seasoned gamer of wrestling lore and a connoisseur of international grappling galore, I can hardly contain my excitement for Wrestle Dynasty! The prospect of seeing talent from various promotions clash under one roof is a dream come true. I’ve been following these women’s divisions closely, and the International Women’s Cup promises to be a spectacle like no other.
The “Wrestle Dynasty” event marks its debut with an exciting lineup featuring wrestlers hailing from AEW, ROH, CMLL, STARDOM, and NJPW. This unique gathering will introduce the inaugural International Women’s Cup, where four representatives from each promotion (except for NJPW) will participate. Qualifying matches within each promotion will decide who gets to represent them in this groundbreaking competition.
As a devoted fan, I eagerly tuned into Thursday’s episode of Honor Club, where a thrilling qualifying match was held to decide the ROH representative in an upcoming event. To my delight, Women’s Champion ATHENA stepped up to the challenge, facing off against the formidable Women’s Television Champion Red Velvet, Billie Starkz, and Leyla Hirsch. The atmosphere was electrifying as each competitor showcased their skills, but in the end, it was ATHENA who emerged victorious!
In various interviews and press gatherings, ATHENA has expressed her wish to engage in wrestling contests in Japan. She even told Tony Khan during a gathering that if she couldn’t travel to Japan, she wanted the best competition brought to her instead. One of those opponents could be Miyu Yamashita. It is also possible that she might participate in Wrestle Dynasty without holding any title. In episode 94, she agreed to a title match with Starkz at the Final Battle, which takes place on December 20th.
This week, AEW will select their contestant for Collision following a mini-tournament. The goal was to decide who would travel to Japan. In the first round, Jamie Hayter overcame Queen Aminata, while Willow Nightingale bested Serena Deeb. Lately, Julia Hart has set her sights on Hayter in pre-event vignettes hinting at her comeback. Notably, Nightingale was previously the NJPW Women’s STRONG Champion and CMLL World Women’s Champion.
On Friday night, CMLL is set to host a four-way women’s match featuring three champions. The current World Champion, Zeuxis, will square off against the Universal Champion, Persephone, as well as the National Champion, Sanley and Reyna Isis, who won the Amazon Grand Prix. Zeuxis has previously fought in Honor Club and Ring of Honor (ROH). In September, she defeated Nightingale to claim the World Championship title. Reyna Isis is no stranger to Honor Club either, having competed there multiple times.
STARDOM hasn’t revealed the method for selecting their representative yet. However, their yearly event, Dream Queendom, is set for December 29. It appears probable that the qualifying match will take place during this event.
In simple terms, the victor of the International Women’s Cup has the freedom to select any title and promotion of their choice. The Wrestle Dynasty event takes place on January 5, 2025, at the Tokyo Dome.
