ROH: ATHENA is about to make history again and no one is talking about it
As a long-time wrestling enthusiast who has witnessed the rise and fall of numerous champions, I must say that ATHENA’s record-breaking reign as ROH World Champion is nothing short of remarkable. It’s been over two years since she first donned the title, and her resilience and determination have truly set a new standard in women’s wrestling.
Starting from the 80th episode of Honor Club, ATHENA has held the title of champion for approximately 636 days now. On September 15, she will break Samoa Joe’s record for the longest ROH World Championship reign, which stands at 645 days. Not only that, but she has already exceeded his most recent TV Championship reign length of 574 days.
If you haven’t noticed, it’s understandable given that ROH didn’t bring up this topic on Honor Club until recently and ignored her breaking the 600-day champion milestone on social media. Sadly, this doesn’t come as a shock since AEW hasn’t recognized these facts, while their male champions are frequently showcased in their programming. In fact, they just had a title change during Collision a few weeks back.
Athena last appeared on AEW programming during Battle of the Belts X in April. She managed to keep her title by defeating Red Velvet. When All In 2025 was announced at Globe Life Field, she was present. As the Ring of Honor champion and a native Texan, she gave fans some hope that by July, she might have relinquished her current title and would be a full-time member of AEW.
One common critique of ROH is that ATHENA rarely appears on AEW shows, while the other male champions are consistently featured. If you’re advertising Honor Club as a place to witness ATHENA’s wrestling prowess, it’s crucial to highlight her on AEW programming. Build anticipation for her. Her reign has been remarkable, but due to lack of promotion on AEW’s end, many fans may have forgotten about her. Unfortunately, AEW doesn’t seem to be showcasing her much.
Over the past period, I’ve been actively sharing news about ATHENA’s groundbreaking title reign across social media platforms and my podcast. I’ve noticed a few other media personalities and content producers briefly mentioning it as well. Among the fanbase, there are some who follow ROH regularly discussing this exciting development. In an attempt to gather more insights, I conducted a thorough survey, revealing that the “Fallen Goddess” is nearing a significant milestone in wrestling history.
As a passionate gamer, I’ve noticed something intriguing about ATHENA. In a small survey, 63% of the participants were aware that ATHENA was on the verge of shattering a record. However, when we delved deeper into how they got this information, only 46% mentioned the initial poll as the source. This suggests that fans are learning about it from other sources rather than directly from the company itself. Both ROH and AEW aren’t discussing this on their social media platforms, which I find unacceptable. I believe the company should be more transparent and engage with their audience about such exciting news.
As a gamer, I can’t help but feel pumped when I see a record being broken, especially one as significant as ATHENA reaching the 500-day mark as TBS Champion. The graphic on TV was just the start, it should have been a massive celebration across all promotions, media outlets, podcasts, and among fans.
