Roger Dubuis continues its Arthurian-themed watch series with the Excalibur Knights of the Round Table: The Enchanter Merlin, the latest installment following the 2024 Omniscient Merlin. This new version moves away from dark tones to a bright white and gold design, inspired by Merlin’s legendary Crystal Palace built for the Lady of the Lake. The watch face itself is a miniature sculpture, featuring gleaming columns resembling palace walls rising above a textured, metallic ‘lake’.

The dials begin with a base crafted from 18k pink gold, carefully shaped with hexagonal openings. These openings hold 56 columns of different materials and heights – nine made of Murano glass, 19 in glossy white enamel, 10 in matte white enamel, nine in polished pink gold, and nine in rhodium-plated gold – each topped with invisible-set hexagonal diamonds. These columns, varying in height from 0.2 to 3.7 mm, create a textured, three-dimensional effect. A layer of sparkling ruthenium crystals at the base of the dial adds a shimmering quality, reminiscent of sunlight on water and enhancing the dial’s delicate, dreamlike appearance.

Okay, so imagine this crazy detailed watch face – it’s like a tiny, perfect medieval scene. Around the edge, there are twelve knights, each about the size of my pinky nail, made from actual pink gold! They started as little sculptures, then they scanned them into a computer, made molds, and cast them. But here’s the insane part: real artists spent *days* engraving every single detail on their swords and armor, even adding this cool, subtle dark shading. They’re set around a beautiful glass piece with golden numbers, and honestly, they look like they’re guarding the time itself. It really captures this whole vibe of honor and protection, which is pretty neat.

The Enchanter Merlin watch features a 45mm case crafted from 18k pink gold, part of the Excalibur collection. It’s powered by a highly detailed, in-house automatic movement called the RD821, which contains 172 parts and has been meticulously hand-finished to meet the strict standards of the Poinçon de Genève. Design elements like the crown protector (shaped like a sword guard), a sapphire crystal under the bezel, and a 360-degree pink-gold rotor are inspired by medieval architecture. A quick-release white leather strap completes the look.

Only 28 of the Excalibur Knights of the Round Table: The Enchanter Merlin watches will be made, and they cost 336,000 Swiss Francs (about $422,179 US dollars). You can only buy them at Roger Dubuis stores.
