Rod Stewart reveals the one song he wants to be remembered for – and it’s not the hit many would expect

Rod Stewart says there’s one song he hopes people will remember him by, and surprisingly, it’s not one of his most famous hits.

Rod Stewart, the 80-year-old British singer, became famous in 1971 with the album *Every Picture Tells a Story* and the hit song “Maggie May.” He’s sold more records than most artists ever have.

For over sixty years, Rod has entertained audiences with popular songs like “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy,” “Tonight’s the Night (Gonna Be Alright),” and “Sailing.”

However, when asked about his favorite song, the singer actually highlighted a more emotional and obscure piece.

In 2011, Rod Stewart said that one song from his successful 1970s period-a song with a message about social issues-might be the best thing he ever recorded.

He shared with Dean Goodman that if he had to pick one song he was truly proud of, it would be ‘The Killing of Georgie.’ He explained that the song tackled a challenging topic for its time – 1976 – and that was quite a while ago.

This song, split into two parts and included on his seventh album, ‘A Night on the Town,’ bravely confronts the issue of homophobia – a subject rarely explored in music back then.

The song tells the tragic story of a man who is beaten and murdered for his sexuality.

And Rod later revealed the narrative was loosely based on the real-life experience of a friend.

The song begins with the lines: ‘In these times of shifting values and so-called freedom, I’m reminded of a friend named Georgie. He was gay, just a genuinely kind person – nothing more, nothing less.’

In a 2016 interview with The Guardian, Rod explained his connection to the real-life person the story was based on, saying he’d only met him a few times. He recalled the man would often play songs and ask, “Do you know this one?”

I’ll never forget when he first played us Sam and Dave’s “Night Time Is the Right Time.” And honestly, he was a very handsome man.

He acknowledged the story felt believable, but confessed he hadn’t actually witnessed it himself. He explained, ‘I wasn’t there, so I added some details to make it more interesting.’

This news follows comments made by Rod Stewart’s wife, Penny Lancaster, who recently described him as remarkably youthful, joking that he’s ‘like a machine.’ She shared these thoughts while discussing their relationship earlier this week.

The 54-year-old TV star has been married to the musician for 18 years. When they first started dating, she had to assure his six children she wasn’t only interested in his money.

When the couple first met, Penny was 27-years-old and Rod was 53, with two marriages behind him.

According to Saga Magazine, the Police Constable shared that Rod Stewart, despite their age difference, has jokingly promised her another two decades of enjoyment.

Penny described Rod as incredibly energetic, almost tireless. He’s always suggesting new adventures – like going out every night or even taking a weekend trip to Paris! Penny joked that he never seems to need rest, and even when he talks about relaxing, he immediately comes up with another plan.

We’re planning tours for the next couple of years. He jokingly told me on his 80th birthday that he’d work for another 20 years.

The Loose Women star shared that she didn’t initially like Rod when they first met, but he quickly charmed her and she fell for him.

His family wasn’t thrilled with the relationship at first, mainly because Rod already had six children with four different mothers.

Penny explained that people kept asking, “What does she want from this?” but she simply thought the person was great. She also said that no matter what her partner Rod had done in past relationships, she always made an effort to be friendly and show the exes she wasn’t a threat.

Rod Stewart had a daughter, Sarah, now 61, with his then-girlfriend Susannah Boffey when he was 17 years old. He later entered into a relationship with her after Sarah’s birth, and she was put up for adoption.

He had three children: Kimberly, 47, and Sean, 45, with his former wife, Alana Stewart, and Ruby, 38, with ex-girlfriend Kelly Emberg.

During his marriage to Rachel Hunter, the lead singer of the band Faces welcomed two more children: Renee, now 33, and Liam, who is 30.

Penny and Rod later welcomed sons Alastair, 19, and Aiden, 14.
