Rod Stewart was ecstatic as Scotland secured a spot in the World Cup for the first time in over two decades, ending a 24-year drought since their last appearance in 1998.
The atmosphere in Glasgow was electric as Scotland defeated Denmark 4-2, with crucial goals from Kieran Tierney and Kenny McLean sealing the victory.
Despite being born and raised in London, 80-year-old Rod has always supported Scotland. This is because his father, Robert, originally from Leith, was Scottish.
Rod posted a video on Instagram of himself excitedly jumping up and down with Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood.
The singer threw his hands in the air in celebration before giving Ronnie a hug.
Besides playing for the Scotland national team, Rod is a passionate Celtic FC fan – he even has a Celtic tattoo on his shoulder!
On Tuesday night, BBC Sport commentators Steven Thompson and James McFadden – both former Scotland players who understand the highs and lows of representing their country – became an online sensation thanks to their excited reactions when Scotland scored two goals in stoppage time.
Ally McCoist celebrated enthusiastically in Las Vegas, and ended up losing his voice from all the cheering.
In a funny Instagram video, the Scottish sporting icon exclaimed he’d lost his voice, excitedly adding, ‘I’m really buzzing! So buzzing!’
Wow, I’m running on just Diet Coke and I’ve completely lost my voice – it’s incredible! What an amazing ending to that! I’m still in shock, watching it all on the screen.
‘It’s remarkable, absolutely remarkable. I’m just so happy, man. So happy.’
Scotland’s victory confirmed their place in the World Cup for the first time in 24 years, since their appearance in France in 1998. This win highlights the team’s improvement under manager Steve Clarke, who has already guided them to qualification for two consecutive European Championships, making him the most successful manager in the nation’s history.
Scotland’s captain, Andy Robertson, said the match was one of the most chaotic he’s ever played in, especially after giving away the penalty that allowed Denmark to tie the score.
I’m absolutely thrilled – we’re going to the World Cup! I was listening to the interview with him on BBC, with Kelly Cates – it’s amazing to think her dad is a legend like Kenny Dalglish. He said it himself, this might be his last shot at playing in the World Cup, and you could really feel how much it meant to him.

It was incredible! The manager gave a really inspiring speech before the game, recalling some of the team’s most memorable victories over the years, including matches against Serbia and Ukraine.
He then suggested they win one more. The team was very emotional, especially knowing they were doing it for him, the staff, and their families—it was one of the best nights of my life.
Now that Scotland has qualified, players and fans are looking forward to the World Cup draw. It will happen on Friday, December 5th, at 5pm at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC.
This summer’s tournament, held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada from June 11th to July 19th, will be the largest ever, featuring 48 teams.
