Voting by fans for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s 2026 class is wrapping up. Like last year, fans seem to be favoring a somewhat controversial nominee. However, the good news is that all fan votes will be combined into a single ballot and considered alongside over 1,200 other ballots from experts.
In addition to a public vote, experts – including music historians, musicians, and record company leaders – will also help decide who gets inducted. The final list of inductees will be revealed in April, and it probably won’t be exactly the same as what fans voted for.
After six weeks of voting, the group New Edition is currently in the lead. While they’re known for their popular and catchy songs, they’re more of a mainstream pop act than a truly influential force in the rock and roll genre this Hall of Fame celebrates. Many would find their inclusion surprising.
With one day left in the fan vote for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame class of 2026, Phil Collins is running second
Phil Collins is a much more deserving artist to recognize. While his band, Genesis, was inducted in 2010, Collins has also enjoyed a hugely successful solo career spanning decades. He’s also a highly influential drummer – bands like XTC have even mentioned how his style impacted the way they recorded drums on their albums.
The biggest concern is that if the official results mirror the fan voting – which probably won’t happen – Iron Maiden is currently in a low position. They’re at number 12 and don’t seem likely to climb higher, especially since almost nine million votes have already been counted and the rankings haven’t changed much in the past month.
2026 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame fan vote as of April 2:
- 1. New Edition – 965,819
- 2. Phil Collins – 844,101
- 3. P!NK – 796,410
- 4. Luther Vandross – 689,647
- 5. Shakira – 655,015
- 6. INXS – 603,332
- 7. Sade – 587,028
- 8. Wu-Tang Clan – 576,954
- 9. Billy Idol – 559,395
- 10. Mariah Carey – 476,020
- 11. Lauryn Hill – 446,527
- 12. Iron Maiden – 370,435
- 13. Melissa Etheridge – 361,915
- 14. The Black Crowes – 258,659
- 15. Oasis – 245,250
- 16. Joy Division/New Order – 216,458
- 17. Jeff Buckley – 161,486
Phish easily won the fan vote in 2025, but they weren’t chosen for induction last year, which was probably the right decision. While the fan vote is enjoyable, it doesn’t guarantee anything. The same situation might happen in 2026, as New Edition is currently leading the fan vote, but may still not be selected for induction.
