Rochelle Humes reveals the VERY unusual product her mother used on her hair and admits she is shocked it never 'gave her a rash'

As I delve into this delightful account, I can’t help but admire the resilience and versatility of these television personalities. Rochelle Humes, a woman who wears many hats – singer, presenter, and mother – has once again proven her adaptability by stepping into the shoes of a TV chef for a day on This Morning.

Rochelle Humes has shared an unexpected trick her hairstylist mother employed for her lengthy tresses when she was younger.

As a devoted admirer, I recall the time when the renowned singer from Saturdays confided that during her youth, it was challenging for her to locate suitable hair products on store shelves catering to her specific hair type. To remedy this issue, her loving mother would ingeniously apply fabric conditioner to her tresses instead.

The This Morning presenter admitted she was shocked she never ‘got a rash’ from the washing product but joked that her hair ‘smelt amazing’.

On Caroline Hirons’ latest podcast “Glad We Had This Chat,” Rochelle stated: “Back then, when I was growing up, there were very few products available for my hair type compared to what we have now. In fact, there was practically nothing suitable.”

My mother would need to travel from Essex to a different part of London, a region with a more varied population, where we could locate suitable goods for me.

In simpler terms, my mom would add fabric softener to our laundry, making me always smell great. Strangely, I never developed a rash despite it, though I can’t imagine what potential allergens might look like today.

She would fill a garden sprayer with fabric softener and warm water, and that essentially comprised my hair care routine.

Rochelle Humes, who is married to Marvin Humes from the band JLS, and they have three kids – Alaia-Mai (10), Valentina (6), and Blake (3) – has launched her own line of children’s hair and skincare products named My Little Coco.

Growing up, Rochelle resided primarily with her Caucasian mother Roz, in a public housing unit situated in Barking, which is part of East London. Her biological father, Mark Piper from Jamaica, had departed when she was still an infant.

In her youth, Rochelle experienced a sense of ‘awkwardness’ or ‘unease’, stemming from the fact that she was a multiracial child growing up surrounded by people of only one race, white.

Previously, she mentioned that her and her sister have distinct appearances – one being of white descent and the other half-black. In the past, she often felt compelled to clarify their relationship due to their dissimilar looks: “This is my sister. I know we don’t look like each other.”

I wanted to preface my actions by explaining them, as I feared that others might question or be curious about the situation.

She’s established close ties with her three adult half-siblings, Sophie, Lili, and Jake, referring to themselves collectively as one large, interconnected family.

Despite claiming to have already forgiven her father, she hasn’t spoken to him and neither has he. Moreover, they remain unaware of each other’s presence in their respective lives due to the absence of contact: ‘We’ve both chosen not to reach out.’

When she turned 12 years old, she was thrust into the limelight, becoming a member (one-eighth) of S Club Juniors – a singing and dancing spin-off group from the popular music band S Club 7.

A group consisting of children aged between 10 and 13 was selected out of numerous applicants during tough auditions on a reality TV show in 2001. They then produced a string of family-friendly, infectious pop songs before dissolving in 2004.

In 2007, she became a member of The Saturdays group. Later, the band decided to pursue individual careers, focusing on their own solo projects.

In her most recent podcast, she made an appearance following a light-hearted outburst when Rochelle playfully demanded that the cameras be moved during an unexpected mishap in a cooking segment on This Morning.

During the program, the presenter encountered a tricky predicament as she tried to pipe meringue.

Previously, she was collaborating on stage with Dermot O’Leary, and together they learned from TV chef Damiano Carrara as he demonstrated the art of creating a scrumptious raspberry pavlova suitable for summer events.

“Damiano made sure everyone understood, ‘We’ll tackle this together, alright. Here’s what we’ll do: We’ll blow in this way and then tilt it downwards,’ he clarified, showing us the way.”

“Wow, this is really enjoyable, Damiano,” Dermot observed as he picked up the task swiftly, just then, Rochelle unexpectedly shouted.

Worried, Dermot inquired, “Everything okay with you, Roch?” To which she reassured, “Absolutely, absolutely we’re fine. Got this handled. Our apologies.”

Looking at her fellow host’s finished work, nearly flawless, Rochelle exclaimed, “Wow, Dermot!” To which the television cook responded, “Dermot is talented.” (Alternatively, “Rochelle marveled at her co-host’s masterpiece, almost perfect, saying, ‘Darn it, Dermot!’ with the chef replying, ‘Dermot is a pro.’)

“Wow, it just hit me! I hadn’t realized those elements needed to be so closely packed. Guess what? I can make it work now. Oh my goodness!” (spoken by an enthusiastic fan)

Appearing a bit exasperated, she requested: “Please don’t take this too seriously. I’ve just noticed that I forgot to turn it. I seem to have messed up with the bag, folks.”

As a lifestyle expert, I stepped forward and spoke directly to Director Barry with a firm tone. “Barry,” I said, “I ask you kindly to refrain from focusing on Rochelle right now. She doesn’t require a close-up in this moment.”

As a devoted follower, I’m sharing the news that our beloved hosts, Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard, are taking a well-deserved break for some summer vacation. They won’t be with us on This Morning for a while, but we wish them a fantastic holiday!

The recently added co-hosts on the ITV daytime program, starting from March, reportedly earning around £555,000 yearly, are now having a seven-week vacation.

Over their summer vacation, different temporary hosts are taking turns to host the program while the regular hosts are away.

As your go-to lifestyle guide, let me share that I couldn’t be more thrilled about the summer lineup kicking off! Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary set the tone from July 15th, and a delightful rotation of familiar faces will grace our virtual sofa throughout the season. So, grab your sunscreen, sit back, relax, and get ready for a summer full of fun and engaging content!

Additionally, joining as hosts are Josie Gibson, Craig Doyle, Rylan Clark, Rochelle Humes, and Joel Dommett, along with Sian Welby, who’s back on air after giving birth to her daughter Ruby last month.

On September 2, ITV’s leading daytime program will see the comeback of Ben and Cat, while Alison and Dermot resume their roles as hosts for Fridays starting from September 6.

Listeners can find Caroline Hirons’ “Glad We Had This Chat” podcast on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and all other popular podcast services.
