What Is ‘Robin Hood’ About, and Who Stars in It?

The classic story of Robin Hood returns in a new original series on MGM+, starring Jack Patten as the heroic outlaw. Alongside his Merry Men, Robin fights against injustice and tyranny. Veteran actor Sean Bean plays the Sheriff of Nottingham, Robin’s ruthless enemy – a greedy and quick-tempered villain. Bean is known for his roles in popular shows and films like Game of Thrones, The Lord of the Rings, and Time.
Determined to bring peace to England following the Norman invasion, Rob is assisted in his epic quest by Marian (Lauren McQueen). The sharp, highly courageous young woman infiltrates the Norman courts to combat royal corruption and fight on Rob’s behalf. McQueen had previously appeared in shows like Hollyoaks and Masters of the Air, as well as in Robert Zemeckis’ Here. Supporting cast members include Connie Nielsen as Eleanor of Aquitaine, Marcus Fraser as Rob’s trusted sidekick Little John, and Lydia Peckham as Priscilla of Nottingham. The official logline for Robin Hood reads:
Rob, the son of a Saxon forester, and Marian, the daughter of a Norman lord, team up to fight for fairness and liberty after the Norman conquest of England. Rob leads a group of outlaws rebelling against the new rulers, while Marian goes undercover in the Norman courts. Together, they work to stop corruption and bring peace to the country.
Who Is the Creative Team Behind ‘Robin Hood’?

MGM+
I’m really excited about this new Robin Hood movie! I’ve been following John Glenn’s work for a while now – he co-wrote the screenplay with Jonathan English, and he’s got a fantastic background. He’s worked on some great action movies like Eagle Eye and The Lazarus Project, plus he’s been a writer and producer on shows I love, like SEAL Team and Hatfields & McCoys. Jonathan English brings a lot to the table too, with experience on shows like The Librarians: The Next Chapter and The Outpost. It’s a really solid creative team!
Todd Lieberman, an Oscar nominee for The Fighter and producer of films like Warm Bodies and Beauty and the Beast, is joining the production as an executive producer. The new Robin Hood series aims to offer a fresh and genuine take on the classic story, promising a sweeping, romantic adventure that captures the blossoming love between Rob and Marian with a modern feel. Michael Wright, head of MGM+, believes the series perfectly represents the network’s brand.
This retelling of the Robin Hood legend offers a fresh take on the classic story of a charming outlaw who fights for the less fortunate. It’s a thrilling, intelligent, and epic romantic adventure that combines historical accuracy with deeper character development, especially focusing on the connection between Robin and Marian.
