Robert Watts, Star Wars and Indiana Jones Producer, passes away at 86
As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in the galaxies far, far away and the adventures of Indiana Jones, hearing about the passing of Robert Watts feels like losing a dear friend. His contributions to Star Wars and Indiana Jones have been an integral part of my own journey through these fantastic worlds.
Today, we regretfully share some unfortunate news. The esteemed producer behind the Star Wars and Indiana Jones trilogies, Robert Watts, has left us. At the venerable age of 86, he peacefully passed away during his sleep.
Through his friendship and work relationship with Gary Kurtz, Watts found himself involved in the production of Star Wars: A New Hope, serving as a production manager initially. He then advanced to the role of associate producer for The Empire Strikes Back and eventually co-produced Return of the Jedi. As reported by Deadline, these collaborations on the Star Wars trilogies led him to team up with Steven Spielberg on the Indiana Jones trilogy. Initially serving as an associate producer for Raiders of the Lost Ark, he later took on the producer role for the other two movies in the series.
Watts briefly appeared in “Return of the Jedi”, as confirmed by Lucasfilm. They posted a photo featuring Watts alongside his co-star Richard Marquand, where he mentioned that his character was actually his military rank in the British army – ‘Lieutenant’. Interestingly, his half-brother Jeremy Bulloch played Boba Fett in “The Empire Strikes Back” and “Return of the Jedi”.
It’s truly heartbreaking to learn about the demise of Robert Watts, a delightful individual who had an uncanny ability to fill our gatherings with joy and merriment. His absence is deeply felt.
