Robert Redford’s daughter recently shared that the family hasn’t had a public funeral for the actor, and she criticized misleading AI-generated posts that suggested otherwise.
On Wednesday, 55-year-old Amy Redford used Instagram to address false reports and announce memorial plans for the legendary Hollywood actor, who passed away in September at 89.
She stated that AI had been used to create fake funerals, memorial messages, and quotes attributed to her family members.
It’s especially hard right now to see images of my dad – he wasn’t involved in creating them – and portrayals of our family that aren’t flattering. We’re all mourning and leaning on each other for support.
She acknowledged that while many aspects of the situation were well-intentioned, she urged people to consider how they would feel if they were in the same position, suggesting that empathy should be their guiding principle.
Amy explained that the family hasn’t had a public funeral yet, but they are making plans for a memorial service at a later date.

She began a long message expressing her gratitude for the incredible outpouring of love and support she’d received after her father’s death. People had reached out through emails, texts, direct messages, letters, and even by stopping by her home.
He touched the lives of so many people, and my family is deeply moved by the incredible stories and heartfelt tributes we’ve received from around the world.
As some of you know, I’m still getting the hang of social media. I don’t naturally post very often, but I really enjoy seeing what everyone else is up to when I do check in.
She then criticized some fans for their AI videos.
Following the announcement of the family’s memorial plans, she explained that every family deserves the chance to grieve and remember their loved one in a way that feels right for them and honors their traditions.
‘AI isn’t going anywhere. My hope is to keep AI in the land of transparent usage where it belongs.’
‘Let human authenticity live, inspire and be the connective tissue we all crave,’ she added.
The Oscar-winner died in his sleep at his home in Utah, outside of Provo.
Cindi Berger, head of the publicity firm Rogers & Cowan PMK, announced his passing.
