What movies did Robert Redford star in?

Robert Redford first appeared on film in 1960 with *Tall Story*, after already establishing himself on television and stage. He gained further recognition in 1967 when he starred in *Barefoot in the Park*, which was based on the well-known play by Neil Simon.

Robert Redford became a major star in 1969 with the film *Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid*. He played the Sundance Kid alongside Paul Newman, who starred as Butch Cassidy.

Throughout the 1970s, Robert Redford rose to become a major Hollywood star, appearing in popular films like *The Sting* (1973), *The Great Gatsby* (1974), *Three Days of the Condor* (1975), and *All the President’s Men* (1976).

Robert Redford began his career as a director in 1980 with the film *Ordinary People*, which went on to win four Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. While he directed, Redford appeared in fewer films, but still delivered strong performances in movies like *The Natural* (1984), *Out of Africa* (1985), *Indecent Proposal* (1993), and *Spy Game* (2001).

Redford announced his retirement from acting after 2018’s The Old Man & the Gun.

I was so surprised to see Robert Redford pop up in *Captain America: The Winter Soldier* back in 2014! He played Secretary Alexander Pierce, a high-ranking S.H.I.E.L.D. official, and it was a real twist when we found out he was actually a Hydra agent. It was great to see him return for *Avengers: Endgame* a few years later, too – a nice little connection across those films.

Beyond his acting career, Robert Redford dedicated himself to supporting independent filmmakers and established the Sundance Film Institute to do so.

Evolve Media sends condolences to Redford’s family and friends.
