Robert Redford looked as charming as ever in his last public outing years before dying aged 89.
The famous actor was last seen at the Prince Albert II Foundation Awards ceremony in Monaco in October 2021.
He was joined by his wife Sibylle Szaggars at the charity event as they both matched in white.
The Academy Award-winning actor passed away peacefully in his sleep at his Utah home near Provo on Tuesday, according to The New York Times.
Cindi Berger, head of the publicity firm Rogers & Cowan PMK, announced his passing.
Robert Redford was a major Hollywood star for many years, known for hit movies like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and All the President’s Men.

He gained widespread recognition in 1963 when he played a leading role in Neil Simon’s Broadway hit, *Barefoot in the Park*, a role he would return to later in his career.
He often starred alongside many of Hollywood’s leading ladies at the time, like Barbra Streisand in The Way We Were in 1973, and Jane Fonda in the 1967 film, Barefoot in the Park.
The actor began directing later in life and won an Oscar for Ordinary People in 1980.
He founded the nonprofit Sundance Institute in 1981, which became a staple in the arts world for years to come.
In 1984, he transformed a struggling film festival into what’s now known as The Sundance Film Festival, in Park City, Utah.
This was a launching pad for aspiring filmmakers, and it’s known for showcasing the early work of now-famous directors like Quentin Tarantino, Ava DuVernay, James Wan, and Darren Aronofsky.
The festival also highlighted documentaries tackling important issues, such as climate change and reproductive rights.
Throughout his career, Redford won countless awards and accolades.

In 1981, he won an Oscar for Best Director for his part in Ordinary People.
His 1994 film, *Quiz Show*, received Academy Award nominations for both Best Picture and Best Director in 1995.
Redford also won multiple Golden Globe Awards, including Best Director for Ordinary People in 1981.
In 2016, President Barack Obama presented Robert Redford with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s most prestigious honor for civilians.
This award is usually given to people who have made outstanding contributions to U.S. security, global peace, or important cultural and public achievements.
Throughout his life, Redford was also a huge advocate for preserving the environment.
In 1961, he relocated to Utah, explaining to CNN that he realized how vital nature was to him and sought a place with dramatic, enduring landscapes. He felt Utah offered just that.
Robert Redford and historian Lola Van Wagenen were married for 27 years, from 1958 to 1985, and had four children: two sons, James and Scott Anthony Redford, and two daughters, Amy and Shauna Redford.
Sadly, his son James passed away in 2020 after a battle with bile duct cancer.
In 2009, Redford married German artist Sibylle Szaggars.
