Josh Safdie, who directed Marty Supreme, recently shared that Robert Pattinson secretly appeared in the film – a fact that wasn’t widely known. The two previously collaborated on the 2017 crime thriller Good Time.
During a recent appearance at the BFI Southbank in London, director Safdie revealed a surprising secret about his film: Robert Pattinson provides the voice of the commentator and umpire. He described it as a hidden Easter egg that most viewers won’t recognize. Pattinson, who was on set watching filming, stepped in because Safdie didn’t know any British actors. You can hear Pattinson’s voice early in the film during the match between the main character and Bela Kletzki.
I was really excited about Marty Supreme even before the buzz about Pattinson potentially being involved! It stars Timothée Chalamet as this incredibly driven young guy who’s totally obsessed with achieving his goals. The cast is amazing too – you’ve got legends like Gwyneth Paltrow and Fran Drescher alongside some really cool up-and-comers like Odessa A’zion, plus unexpected faces like Kevin O’Leary, Tyler Okonma, and even Abel Ferrara! It’s a seriously eclectic mix of talent.
Safdie described his first encounter with the actor who would eventually star in Marty Supreme, explaining that the meeting sparked the idea for the film. He recalled an agent dramatically introducing the actor as “the next superstar,” which immediately struck him as odd. Safdie noticed the actor standing in a corner, seemingly lost in thought and possessing a strong, almost overwhelming, sense of self-importance. He jokingly referred to the actor as “Timmy Supreme,” noting the intensity of the impression he made.
Safdie was impressed by the actor’s work and specifically wrote the character in Marty Supreme with him in mind. “He truly embodies a movie star,” Safdie explained. “He’s an intense and determined dreamer, a real New Yorker.”
Many Hollywood directors would quickly start a new project after a hit like Marty Supreme. But for Josh Safdie, it’s not that simple. He says he needs a significant break between films. “I’m completely drained after each movie,” he explained, “so I have to recharge before starting something new.”
Robert Pattinson & Timothee Chalamet Will Reunite in Dune: Part Three
Although Robert Pattinson had an uncredited role in Marty Supreme, he’ll be featured more prominently alongside Timothée Chalamet in Dune: Part Three, one of the biggest sci-fi movies coming out in 2026. Details about Pattinson’s character are currently unknown, but fans are already speculating. The movie is set to be released on December 18th.
I was so fascinated to hear Robert Pattinson talk about making the movie! He described filming in the Arabian desert as completely draining, but in a weirdly freeing way. He said it felt like his brain just shut off – he literally felt like he had no functioning brain cells! Apparently, he just completely trusted director Denis Villeneuve, letting him guide everything with a simple ‘Do whatever you want!’ It sounds like an incredibly unique experience.
Marty Supreme is now playing in theaters.
