Robert Pattinson’s new movie Mickey 17 called a “masterpiece” in strong first reviews
The freshly released film titled “Mickey 17” by Robert Pattinson is receiving high praise after initial critiques, even being labeled as a “masterpiece” by one reviewer on Rotten Tomatoes.
Under the guidance of director Bong Joon-ho, famed for his work on Parasite, the upcoming sci-fi movie features Robert Pattinson in the role of Mickey 17, an expendable individual chosen for a human mission to explore and potentially colonize the frigid planet Niflheim.
Mickey’s role involves tackling the riskiest aspects of the task, and in case he meets an untimely end during this process, a new body is grown with many of his memories preserved.
But, matters become intricate when it results in two instances of Mickey existing simultaneously, leading to conflicts between them.
Prior to hitting the big screens on April 18th, the film “Mickey 17” is currently garnering a remarkable 88% rating on the review site, Rotten Tomatoes, based on 32 critiques as of now.
According to a review in The Independent, the movie is labeled as a “masterful work” that satirizes capitalism and mocks Donald Trump in an unconventional manner.
Here’s what some of the other critics have been saying:
Deadline
If you’re someone who resonates with the feeling of wanting to pause the chaos and find solace, this film is tailored to your taste. It offers an exhilarating, heart-pounding journey that could make your head spin.
The Wrap
As a former teen idol, filmmaker favorite, and leading action star, Robert Pattinson might just find humor his natural forte. In this role, he offers a flexible, agile performance that rivals the comedic skills of Jim Carrey at his best.
Indie Wire
I’d contend that among Bong’s English-language films, “Mickey 17” stands out as the most impressive and harmonious due to its striking resemblance to his earlier works, specifically “Snowpiercer” and “Okja”. This fusion is a compelling demonstration of Bong’s talent.
Vulture
In contrast to the generally pessimistic tone found in Bong’s other works, ‘Mickey 17’ concludes with a sense of optimism, as it demonstrates that even the most passive characters from sci-fi can find their voice. This hopeful ending is more than we may currently warrant.
Time Out
As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but sing praises for “Mickey 17”. While it might not carry the same political edge as some of its predecessors, it certainly delivers an extraordinary dose of fun. It’s a grand, peculiar spectacle that sets itself apart from the usual blockbuster movies we’re accustomed to.
Next Best Picture
Mickey 17 seems authentic as a blockbuster, not just focusing on action or sensational elements, but rather capturing the deep emotional resonance and societal relevance that truly captivates viewers when it comes to cinematic experience.
Mickey 17 releases in cinemas on April 18.
