It’s Robert Pattinson, but not as fans know him.
The British actor, sporting a blonde wig and somewhat messy red lipstick, recently posed with Zendaya for a photoshoot that plays with traditional gender roles. They’re working together to promote three upcoming movies that fans are excited about.
In the upcoming comedy, The Drama, releasing in April, the two lead actors will portray a couple about to get married, but their wedding plans are threatened by a hidden secret.
This marks the beginning of a three-film partnership between the actors. They will also appear together in the upcoming science fiction movie Dune: Part Three, and in The Odyssey, director Christopher Nolan’s take on the classic Greek story.
Putting aside their usual promotional work for a moment, the two stars focused on a striking new photoshoot for the March issue of Interview magazine.
Nadia Lee Cohen beautifully photographed the actor looking almost unrecognizable with a messy blonde wig and smudged makeup, while wearing a silk bodysuit from Chloé.
I’ve been seeing some really interesting fashion choices lately, and Robert Pattinson’s latest shoot is a perfect example. He’s pictured leaning against a stark wall in a very minimalist setting, with just a couple of oxygen tanks nearby. He’s wearing a beautiful, flowing Valentino blouse and trousers – it’s a surprisingly androgynous look, and it totally works. It’s all about unexpected pairings and embracing a softer side to menswear, which I’m loving!
In another photo, Robert Pattinson’s messy and unkempt wig appears dirty as he smokes and looks directly into Sacha Baron Cohen’s camera.
Zendaya joined the actor, posing in Levi’s shorts worn open with ripped tights and an Isabel Marant crop top. She stood with a relaxed, slightly slouched posture against a plain background.
In another photo, Zendaya and Pattinson both wear floral outfits. Zendaya is pictured in a flowing blue dress by Chloé, and Pattinson wears a dress from Palace Costume, though his face has been intentionally obscured in the published image.
Robert Pattinson became widely known, along with Kristen Stewart, after starring as the vampire Edward Cullen in the popular Twilight movies.
His sudden and intense popularity, along with the huge success of Twilight worldwide, often made it hard to separate what was real from what was part of the fictional world created by his fans.
Honestly, I loved being part of making those films. But what really struck me was the massive marketing campaign that followed – it was huge! It’s something I still think about, how much effort went into getting the movies out there after all the hard work on set.
I wanted to maintain my own sense of self and avoid being defined by that situation, so I started expressing my individuality more, and it became a lasting part of who I am.
It was strange becoming well-known for portraying a character – at first, many people actually believed I was that person.
He described the experience as odd, but said it motivated him to challenge it. He also explained that he didn’t feel a strong connection to that particular identity, as it wasn’t originally his own.
The British actor, now famous thanks to several hit movies, recently told GQ how impressed he is with Zendaya, especially considering she’s in all three of their upcoming projects.
He said she was fantastic and that he really liked her. He also praised her performance in ‘The Drama’ and all of her other work.
I haven’t actually read or seen her performance in The Odyssey, I’ve only seen photos of her. We’ve only met briefly a couple of times.
In the next Dune movie, Robert Pattinson will join the cast as Scytale, a master of disguise from the Tleilaxu, and Zendaya will return as the fierce Fremen warrior, Chani.
The movie was filmed in both Hungary and Abu Dhabi. Robert Pattinson especially enjoyed a scene where he and Zendaya drove into the desert near Liwa Oasis, which is located by the Persian Gulf.
He remembered thinking that no other job could offer experiences like these. He felt he was going through things that very few people, past or present, would ever get to experience, and he found it amazing.
Okay, seriously, being on set for Dune, out in the actual desert… it was unreal! I’ll never forget filming the very first scene with Zendaya. I remember looking around, and it just hit me – “Oh my gosh, we’re in Dune!” And she was just so cool about it, like, “Yeah… we’re making a Dune movie.” It was the most amazing, surreal experience ever!
It honestly felt like being in a Dune film – it was incredibly enjoyable. I’m really hoping audiences love it too.
‘I think it’s quite fun. I hope people find it funny.’
The March edition of Interview magazine is out now.
