Robert Pattinson & Jennifer Lawrence’s New Film Scores Major Deal After 92% Rotten Tomatoes!
Jennifer Lawrence’s latest movie, “Die, My Love,” is getting off to a strong beginning, with her co-starring alongside her in this gripping psychological drama.
The movie titled “Untitled Lynne Ramsay Project” recently premiered on May 17th. Directed by Lynne Ramsay (known for “We Need to Talk About Kevin” and “You Were Never Really Here”), it has been met with immense critical praise and has already secured a distribution deal. Interestingly, Mubi outbid several other distributors in a fierce competition to acquire the rights to the film “Die, My Love,” featuring Robert Pattinson and Lawrence, for an impressive $23 million.
The agreement falls within the price point of $23 million to $24 million, ensuring a cinema debut on no fewer than 1,500 screens for a minimum of 45 days. The film “Die, My Love” secured its initial significant deal at Cannes and represents Mubi’s largest acquisition to date. It’s reported that Netflix and Apple were also potential contenders for the deal.
As a cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that Mubi has secured the rights for three captivating films: Oliver Hermanus’ “The History of Sound”, Kelly Reichardt’s “The Mastermind”, and Akinola Davies’ “My Father’s Shadow”. Following the impressive successes from the past, this acquisition promises an exciting cinematic journey ahead.
On May 17th at Cannes, Lawrence and Pattison carried the carpet for the film’s premiere, which received a warm welcome and sustained applause for nine minutes. The movie, set in rural America, tells the story of a new mother experiencing postpartum depression and psychosis as her marriage begins to falter.
As a cinephile immersed in the world of cinema, I found myself captivated by “Die, My Love,” a film adaptation of Ariana Harwicz’s 2017 novel of the same title. This moving tale boasts an impressive ensemble cast including LaKeith Stanfield, Sissy Spacek, and Nick Nolte.
Die, My Love Debuted With a Near-Perfect Score
The psychological drama opened to a high acclaim with a 92% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes from critics so far, though this could change as more opinions roll in. Noteworthy is that, among the limited reviews available, just one critic from Variety has given it a negative review.
The critique penned by Owen Gleiberman suggests that despite Ramsay’s considerable talent, the film isn’t meant to delve into the weighty aspects of motherhood, which can be just as profound as its joys. Instead, it is constructed more like a thesis statement movie: bold and reckless on the outside but deeply thought-out. Additionally, Jennifer Lawrence’s acting in the film comes across as intensely passionate yet subtly controlled at the same time.
In comparison to other reviews, this film has left a more profound impact. Critic Ryan Lattanzio from IndieWire finds it highly commendable. “Lawrence’s performance in this movie is nothing short of remarkable, as she fully immerses herself into a director’s challenging and distressingly grim perspective.
Tim Grierson commends the approach to mental health and postpartum depression in this psychological drama, noting that the methods used by Ramsay and Lawrence to explore these traumas create a distinctly unsettling rhythm within the story.
Die, My Love doesn’t have a theatrical release date yet.
