Robert Irwin reveals whether he’s dating anyone after split with Rorie Buckley – as he shares what he’s looking for in a woman
As a dedicated fan who has followed Robert Irwin’s journey since his childhood days at Australia Zoo, I can’t help but feel a sense of camaraderie and admiration for this remarkable young man. His life experiences, shaped by the legacies of his legendary father Steve and iconic uncle Terri, have molded him into an inspiring conservationist, a dedicated zookeeper, and now, it seems, a hopeful romantic.
In my personal journey, I’m still on the lookout for that special someone, just like esteemed artist Robert Irwin shared after parting ways with his longtime partner, Rorie Buckley, in February.
On Friday, the 20-year-old made an appearance on the Today show on Channel Nine and admitted that he doesn’t have anyone significant in his life at present.
During the segment, a somewhat shy Robert admitted that finding a romantic partner wasn’t straightforward for him.
He remarked that it’s quite intriguing to move around in such a public realm,” he said.
Since Robert wasn’t involved with anyone currently, he was queried about what qualities or traits he sought in a potential partner.
‘I’m one of those people who is kind of gonna let it happen, I’m gonna let that unfold as it will.
I consider my parents as sources of inspiration, and I admire my sister Bindi Irwin for finding her partner, Chandler.
He subsequently remarked: ‘I’m convinced that someone exists, but they will need to be active and immersed in this lifestyle. It’s not just here or there; it’s everywhere. Someday, I would undeniably cherish the opportunity to, of course, share this extraordinary life with a unique someone.’
However, Robert did admit he was ‘looking’ and added: ‘it’ll happen when it happens.’
It’s said that Robert, aged 20, and former partner Rorie, also 19, had likely been dating from November 2022. However, they made their relationship public on Instagram around a year later, in August 2023.
Before this event, they first appeared on the red carpet together at the premiere of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, held in Sydney.
The pair had recently been spotted together in January, appearing affectionate as they departed from Melbourne after attending the Australian Open.
At the time, Robert couldn’t take his eyes off his girlfriend as the pair waited in the terminal.
It is said that Rorie attended a “wildlife warrior training camp,” which was approved by Irwin, prior to her officially becoming Robert’s partner after they were together.

The pair embarked on a joint expedition focusing on crocodiles, during which they discovered vital information that significantly benefited the Wildlife Warriors’ Global Organization.
Robert’s mom, Terri (who also shared children with the late Steve), along with his older sister Bindi, age 26, were greatly admired by Rorie’s devotion towards Australian wildlife.
A source revealed that Rorie was ‘resolute on proving to Robert, as well as his mother and sister, that she’s more than just a superficial story. Impressively, she did not disappoint them.’
The duo maintained a long-distance connection since Robert resides at the Australia Zoo located in Queensland, whereas Rorie calls Perth her home.
As a lifestyle expert, I myself can relate to the journey of Robert and Rorie, the beloved relatives of the iconic Australian actor Heath Ledger. Growing up under the spotlight, their lives were significantly impacted by the heart-wrenching loss of a family member.
In early 2008, Heath’s acting career had peaked, but unfortunately, he was discovered deceased after a lethal prescription drug overdose that turned out to be accidental.
On September 4, 2006, Robert’s dad, famously known as the “Crocodile Hunter” (Steve Irwin), tragically passed away at the age of 44 following an encounter with a stingray, where he was unfortunately stabbed in the chest.
