Robert Eggers confirms next movie following Nosferatu success

Robert Eggers is tackling another monstrous creature after the box-office success of Nosferatu.

Following the success of his blockbuster vampire horror, it has been officially announced that the director will be taking on the role of directing “Werwulf”, a werewolf film which he co-authored with Icelandic poet and screenwriter Sjón.

Following their collaboration on the Viking revenge tale “The Northman,” filmmakers Robert Eggers and Sjón are set to reunite for a new project titled “Werwulf,” produced by Focus Features. Chris Columbus, known for his work on “Thursday Murder Club,” will executive produce this production along with Eleanor Columbus, having previously worked with Eggers on the film “Nosferatu.

The film titled “Werwulf” is set in 13th century England and employs dialogue that reflects the era, written in Old English. To aid viewers, there are translations and annotations provided. Initially planned to be filmed in black and white like Eggers’ “The Lighthouse”, this is no longer the intended style for the movie.

As a thrilled fan, I can’t help but eagerly anticipate the chilling horror masterpiece by the writer-director set to hit North American screens on Christmas Day 2026. Fingers crossed that this spine-tingling production will mirror the festive triumph of Nosferatu, which graced our cinemas during the peak holiday season in 2024.

Praised by Digital Spy as “the top horror” of 2024, the remake of the 1922 silent expressionist original features Lily-Rose Depp in the role of Ellen Hutter, a woman who finds herself pursued by the vampire Count Orlok, portrayed by Bill Skarsgård.

It was announced earlier this month that the home edition of the movie Nosferatu contains a fascinating scene, which is teased in the trailer, but wasn’t part of the movie when it was shown in theaters.

In an interview with Esquire UK, Eggers mentioned one of those pesky issues for film enthusiasts: the scene isn’t in the movie. He found the shot quite impressive and enjoyed it personally, but its placement undermined some suspense because it revealed that Orlok was nearby.

Nosferatu is in cinemas now. Werwulf is slated for a Christmas 2026 release.
