Robert Downey Jr. will return as Iron Man (for a Disneyland ride)

As a long-time Marvel fan and gamer who’s been following the MCU since its inception, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and nostalgia at the news of Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the Marvel Universe. Despite his departure from the big screen after Endgame, it’s heartening to see him reprise his iconic role, albeit in a different format.

In the thrilling world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), I, as Iron Man aka Tony Stark, made my last grand appearance in the blockbuster “Avengers: Endgame” back in 2019. The MCU is the unrivaled titan of cinema history, and let me tell you, I was an essential piece of that phenomenal journey.

As a gaming enthusiast, I thought Downey Jr. had hung up his Iron Man armor for good after this, given he’d raked in a fortune playing the character and spent over a decade in that suit. Frankly, it wasn’t hard to imagine him feeling burnt out from portraying Tony Stark. But then Marvel dangled an intriguing proposition before us: Downey is set to rejoin the MCU, not as Tony Stark, but as Doctor Doom – a formidable villain poised to make his grand entrance in the upcoming movie “The Fantastic Four: First Steps”.

As a dedicated gamer and Marvel fan, if given the chance, I’d jump at the opportunity to pocket $80 million like Robert Downey Jr. is apparently doing for his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). But here’s the twist: he’s not reprising his role in a new movie. Instead, according to the latest from Gaming Bible, he’ll be suit-wearing once more, but this time as Iron Man, in a thrilling new ride at Disneyland called Stark Flight Lab.

In their headline, Gaming Bible announced that Robert Downey Jr. is back as Iron Man, a statement that’s accurate but could potentially confuse readers. The truth is, he’s set to wear the suit for a theme park attraction instead of a film or series. As for now, it remains uncertain if he will actually don the suit; it might simply be Tony Stark in his casual attire.

Currently, there isn’t a specific timeline for when Stark Flight Lab will become operational. This is one of several exciting new additions that Disney aims to use to boost its theme parks. With blockbusters like Deadpool and Wolverine bringing Disney back to the forefront of the box office, they now have the chance to rejuvenate other areas of their business as well. We’ll have to wait and see how they utilize this opportunity.
