On Thursday evening, Robert Downey Jr. was seen walking hand-in-hand with his spouse, Susan Downey, following an enjoyable romantic dinner for the two of them.
59-year-old Marvel actor and 51-year-old movie producer were seen leaving popular venue Giorgio Baldi in Santa Monica, California, with a warm, friendly vibe, suggesting they had enjoyed their time together.
While on an outing, Robert Downey Jr. was spotted donning an Iron Man t-shirt – a move reminiscent of five years ago when he retired from his superhero role, yet more recently revealed plans for rejoining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a different capacity.
Under what appeared to be an ordinary shirt, he wore a gray velvet jacket and a corresponding tweed hat with a stripe pattern of cream and black – the fedora being his accessory of choice.
The former student of Oppenheimer, poised to surpass all other actors in earnings with his new part fetching him a substantial sum exceeding $78 million, opted for casual attire, wearing black denim pants and bulky trainers.
By his side, his wife Susan exuded an effortless elegance, wearing a houndstooth plaid sweater dress, a fashionable trench coat, and see-through stockings.
She accessorized her sweater dress by carrying a braided crossbody bag in a burgundy shade and wearing chunky ankle boots to coordinate with it.
On their date night, both Robert and Susan seemed quite joyful and quickly showed off their smiles.
Their outing comes as the couple approaches their 20-year wedding anniversary.
Two decades ago, exactly on August 27, 2005, a couple who had been engaged for almost two years and dated for four more years, tied the knot.
This year, Susan, his wife, shared the key to their enduring marriage and methods they employ to maintain the spark amidst his hectic work commitments.
She said that their marriage thrives because they have prioritized an important ‘rule.’
She mentioned that they follow a rule where they wait for about two weeks, as she shared with People in March. While she admitted that it can sometimes feel overly prolonged, it suits their circumstances well.
In my expertise, I advocate for regular family bonding time, and personally, I strive to ensure we reunite every fortnight at most.
Back in 2003, I crossed paths with a remarkable individual on the set of Gothika, where she was the producer and he was the star. Today, we are blessed parents to a 12-year-old son, Exton, and a 9-year-old daughter, Avri.
The Chaplin star is also father to son Indio, 30, from his first marriage with Deborah Falconer.
Because Robert’s successful acting career keeps him quite occupied, she mentioned the need for both of them to stay attentive and adaptable, always ensuring that their relationship and family come first.
Susan put it this way: “Stick to a two-week plan, and avoid trying to plan too far in advance since a lot of what we encounter tends to be surprisingly unforeseeable.
She mentioned, “It’s important to understand that unexpected events like illnesses, shutdowns, or other situations may arise. Therefore, you should prepare some essential items ahead of time. Afterward, you must adapt and go with the flow as needed.
She said that her schedule is a bit more flexible as a producer and executive.
She mentioned that since she isn’t required to be in front of the camera, her role as a producer allows for a bit more freedom in choosing her working location.
She went on, expressing her respect and deep understanding for duos who are often in the spotlight, as they face difficult decisions about who should take the lead in front of the camera.
Despite the fact that their Oscar-winning spouse doesn’t typically have a regular job with a daily commute, she deeply respects and commends his diligence and artistic abilities.
She mentioned that he applies the same degree of dedication and conviction, as if he truly believes in his acting abilities and strives for excellence in every Marvel film and other projects alike.
Occasionally, I find his acting appears so natural that I might casually think, “That’s just Downey being Downey.” However, what seems effortless is actually the result of tremendous talent and hard work.
