The Daily Mail obtained a case file from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, revealing further information about David Carradine’s death on Friday.

The actor recently passed away at a Los Angeles hospital. His death was the result of hanging, which caused severe brain damage from a lack of oxygen.

David Carradine’s brother, Keith, and his family announced the actor’s death on Monday, according to a statement given to Deadline.

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Robert Carradine, a cherished father, grandfather, uncle, and brother.

‘In a world that can feel so dark, Bobby was always a beacon of light to everyone around him.’

We are deeply saddened by the loss of this wonderful person and want to recognize Bobby’s courageous fight with Bipolar Disorder, which he battled for almost twenty years.

We hope his story will help reduce the shame and misunderstanding surrounding mental health, and inspire people to seek help and support.

We are heartbroken and ask for privacy as we mourn this devastating loss. We appreciate your kindness and support during this difficult time.

Keith expressed that there is ‘no shame’ with mental illness.

He fought a difficult illness with incredible strength, and I want to honor his life and remember his kind spirit. He was a remarkably talented person, and we will miss him dearly every single day.

Keith shared that they would remember his brother for his humor, wisdom, and incredible kindness and acceptance. He described him as a truly wonderful person.

After news of his death became public on Monday, many people shared tributes. Ever posted photos of her father, collected from throughout the years, on Instagram.

She shared a heartfelt message remembering him, describing the actor as a kind and compassionate person.

Ever shared the news that her father had passed away. She described him as kind, humorous, and surprisingly young – just twenty years her senior. He was always there for her, whether it was a ride to the airport or a compliment on her cooking, and she deeply felt his loss.

The Handmaid’s Tale actress also remembered him being consistently supportive, always making time for others, like hosting dinners or offering rides from the airport.

She explained that when people ask her how she grew up so well-adjusted, she always credits her father.

I always felt deeply loved and supported by my dad. It probably helped that we were close in age and kind of grew up alongside each other.

She continued, ‘A twenty-year age difference isn’t a big deal, and I never saw him as a brother figure, but always as my equal. We faced everything as a team.’

I always wanted to earn his trust and show him I was as supportive to him as he’d been to me. I didn’t want to disappoint him.

She also added that Carradine ‘was a lover, not a fighter.’

He was a truly kind person, and in today’s often-divided world, we could all learn from his example by opening our hearts and sharing love with others.

I have so many memories of my dad, Bobby Carradine, and thinking about him brings them all back. He shaped me into the person I am today, so if you see me, please ask me about him. I miss him dearly and loved him more than anything.

His Lizzie McGuire co-star Hilary Duff also paid tribute to the star.

David Carradine famously played the role of her on-screen father, Sam McGuire, in the popular Disney series that ran from 2001 to 2004.

She started her post by saying it was deeply upsetting. It’s been difficult accepting the truth about a long-time friend.

The McGuire family was incredibly welcoming, and I always felt loved and supported by my TV parents. I’m deeply thankful for their kindness.

She finished by saying she was heartbroken to hear about Bobby’s struggles and expressed her sympathy for his family and friends.

David Carradine started acting very young, making his film debut in 1972’s The Cowboys alongside John Wayne.

The next year, he appeared in a small part in Martin Scorsese’s crime drama, Mean Streets (1973).

He remained a popular actor throughout the 1970s and 80s. In 1984, he became well-known for his leading role in the movie Revenge of the Nerds, and he continued in that role in the following sequels.

The early 2000s showed him portraying Duff’s on-screen dad in Lizzie McGuire.

His last acting role before he passed away was in the 2026 horror comedy Skate To Hell, and he had other projects planned or in development, as listed on his IMDB page.
