Robbie Williams reveals “quite embarrassing” Better Man experience

As a seasoned gamer and music enthusiast with over two decades of listening to Robbie Williams‘ hits under my belt, I must say that the prospect of watching his biopic “Better Man” is both intriguing and amusing. The CGI chimpanzee portrayal of our beloved British pop sensation has certainly piqued my curiosity!

It remains to be seen how Robbie Williams’ fans will react to his upcoming biopic film “Better Man”, but it’s clear that he himself is quite enthusiastic about it.

In this fresh film production, Jonno Davies brings the character of Williams to life as a computer-generated chimpanzee, while popular songs like ‘Rock DJ’, ‘She’s the One’, and ‘Come Undone’ are creatively adapted for the motion picture.

In conversation with Digital Spy, the celebrity disclosed that he tends to delve a bit deeper into the remakes of his own tunes.

Yesterday, I listened to the new ‘Rock DJ’ song on its own, different from when it was in the film. They recently sent over the final version. It’s a bit awkward when I’m watching the movie and someone in the theater starts dancing along – that’s me, laughing it off as a joke.

Occasionally, I find myself resonating with the lyrics of “Rock DJ” when I express, “I’m not feeling the rock vibe either,” only to discover that no one else seems to share my sentiment. Afterward, I often leave the scene still humming the tunes.

In the context of “Rock DJ,” we don’t hold him responsible because he converted it into an unforgettable musical performance, marking Take That’s triumphant breakthrough moment, culminating in a grand dance spectacle on Regent Street in London.

For four nights, they shot scenes directly on the real street, bringing in 500 extras to fill the area, but despite a year-and-a-half of meticulous planning and a week of intensive rehearsals, the spectacular sequence didn’t unfold as anticipated.

Towards the close of the week, we received a call confirming the Queen’s demise. Consequently, a period of 10 days is being observed as mourning for the Queen, hence our filming was halted, as Gracey conveyed to Digital Spy.

After losing the funds, we faced a five-month struggle to reacquire the same amount before returning to Regent Street for another round of our project.

During that span of time, many individuals suggested, “That figure isn’t crucial. You can probably reduce it without impacting the movie.” However, my response was, “Absolutely not.

Every time I revisit that movie, I can’t help but grin, for it feels like only a hair’s breadth separates the final tally from never gracing its screens.

Prior to the upcoming release of “Better Man” around Christmas, Williams shared insights with Digital Spy. He described the movie as a form of therapy for him, while Jonno Davies, the main actor, elaborated on why portraying a chimpanzee was an empowering experience.

Better Man is released in UK cinemas on December 26.
