Robbie Williams explains why he’s a chimpanzee in new biopic

As a lifelong fan who has witnessed Robbie Williams‘ meteoric rise to fame and his subsequent evolution into a cultural icon, I must say that the announcement of “Better Man” has left me utterly intrigued. The decision to portray Williams as a CGI chimpanzee in this biopic might seem bizarre at first glance, but as someone who’s always appreciated the singer’s eccentricity and flair for the unusual, I find it a truly inspired choice.

Robbie Williams has revealed why he is being played as a chimpanzee in upcoming biopic Better Man.

In a fresh take on cinema, this innovative film narrates the legendary actor’s life journey, employing a motion-captured chimpanzee for an extraordinary portrayal. In a recent conversation, the actor himself has revealed his fascination with the “unconventional.

Jonno Davies, the person responsible for the computer-generated chimp character portrayed by me, did an exceptional and awe-inspiring job, as stated by Williams on The One Show. However, I’m not sure why he was so impressive; apparently, it was just an idea that director Michael Gracey had in mind.

The singer expressed that they appreciate quirky, unconventional, and dreamlike qualities, and they instantly understood it when it was presented to them.

There might not have been much buzz around this movie without the monkey character. Yet, it does include the monkey, and it certainly generates a lot of discussion once you watch it – it all seems fitting when you experience it.

In a movie sneak peek, I shared my intentions to reveal the authentic “me,” Robbie Williams, and I do so by portraying a chimpanzee. This character represents how I’ve often felt about my own evolution – not quite there yet!

In an interview with Deadline in 2021, Gracey shared his intention to convey a “fantastical tale” through the film and depict it authentically from its gritty realism to the surreal, magical scenes.

He explained, “Contrary to certain individuals who are naturally gifted prodigies or geniuses and whose brilliance is eventually recognized by the world, this isn’t a tale about that.

Robbie exhibits the qualities of a common man who dared to dream grandly and pursued those dreams, leading him to an extraordinary destination. His journey, therefore, resonates deeply with many. He may not be the most accomplished singer or dancer, but he has managed to sell 80 million records worldwide.

This drama titled “Better Man” features Steve Pemberton from “Inside No 9“, Alison Steadman known for her role in “Gavin & Stacey“, Damon Herriman who starred in “Mindhunter“, and Raechelle Banno, best recognized from “Home & Away“.

Better Man will be released in cinemas on December 26.
