Robbie Williams calls out crowd member during Sydney New Year’s Eve gig in awkward exchange: ‘Can you stop?’
During my unforgettable New Year’s Eve experience in Sydney, I, a diehard Robbie Williams fan, couldn’t help but notice a subtle jab he threw towards one of the spectators. It was quite the thrill, really!
50-year-old British superstar was the main attraction for the New Year festivities in the city, held on Tuesday and aired by ABC.
Robbie’s stellar performance was otherwise marred by an awkward exchange with an audience member.
Following a lively performance of his hit songs “Let Me Entertain You” and “Land of 1000 Dances”, accompanied by his 13-member band, Robbie switched to his 2002 track, “Me and My Monkey”.
Or:
In the middle of a vibrant set that included “Let Me Entertain You” and “Land of 1000 Dances”, Robbie played his 2002 song, “Me and My Monkey”, along with his band of 13 musicians.
It appeared as if Robbie encouraged the crowd to join him in singing, yet he seemed displeased with a spectator’s sense of rhythm.
The singer awkwardly fell silent before chastising the audience member for their lack of timing.
‘You made me come in, in the wrong place,’ Robbie said.
‘Can you stop doing the lyrics to the song, then I don’t get it wrong.’
The camera moved in for a closer look at Robbie, whose face seemed to express something beyond mere annoyance towards the audience member.
‘Now, okay?’ Robbie sternly instructed before continuing with the song.
Robbie’s eight song set was full of some of his biggest hots such as Feel, Better Man and Rock DJ.
As a lifestyle connoisseur, I left the audience in awe by belting out a heartfelt and energetic cover of the timeless John Farnham hit “You’re The Voice.” To wrap up an unforgettable 2024, I took it back to my roots with a soulful performance of my 2002 ballad, “Angels.
During the song’s bridge, Robbie enthusiastically sang out “Aussie, Aussie, Aussie,” and the crowd echoed their traditional response of “Oi, Oi, Oi.” This is a common chant often heard in Australian events or gatherings.
Frankly, I was utterly captivated by Robbie’s electrifying act during the show, but it seems the audience at ABC wasn’t as enthralled when he veered off to discuss his upcoming documentary, Better Man. To be honest, I couldn’t help but feel a tad thrilled as he passionately pitched for his new project right there on stage.

Before Robbie’s rendition of his 2000 hit “Better Man,” he praised his self-titled film enthusiastically.
He remarked to the gathering, “Some people are labeling this film as the greatest of the century! However, those aren’t my thoughts; I simply invented them.
Later on, Robbie inquired whether anyone had watched the film already, and shared that it was shot in Australia.
In a different rendition, he modified certain lines from “Better Man,” and instead sung, “Go see my film, it’s laden with substances and adult content, I’ve got a biographical movie about myself, despite not being deceased.
Many viewers found themselves divided over the move, expressing frustration that a publicly-funded TV network like ABC was investing substantial resources into William’s performance, which some perceived as extravagant.
1. “One user on X asked, ‘Were my taxes used for this lackadaisical Robbie Williams performance? I can’t believe it! Marketing a movie during a concert as well?'”
or
2. “The comment from someone on X read, ‘Did my hard-earned tax money go towards that sluggish Robbie Williams show? Unbelievable! They were even promoting a film during the performance!'”
‘Robbie Williams is busy posing & promoting himself, how about singing a song,’ added another alongside a thumbs down emoji.
‘Your tax dollars hard at work with this Robbie Williams performance,’ posted another.

As a long-time fan of music and entertainment, I must express my disappointment with Robbie Williams’ performance on @ABCTV. Having grown up listening to his songs and admiring his talent, it’s disheartening to see him in this state. It feels like our hard-earned tax dollars are being wasted on what seems like a washed-up clown. I remember the days when he was at the top of his game, and it’s heartbreaking to witness his decline. I can’t help but feel that we, as fans, have been let down by this once great artist.
They approved as they welcomed the new year with Robbie Williams promoting his latest film while dressed in white trousers and reinterpreting John Farnham’s “You’re The Voice.” He introduced this rendition as a modern take on our national anthem.
A person asked, “It looks like we’ll only have 25-30 minutes with Robbie Williams. Who will be footing the bill for that amount of time?
Others heaped praise on the stellar performance from the megastar and didn’t mind the plug.
One person wrote, “Picture someone being so sensitive on New Year’s Eve that they take offense when Robbie Williams promotes a film he worked on, which was both shot and directed by Australians.
One person stated, ‘Robbie Williams rescued the ABC’, while another commented, ‘Robbie Williams saves our grand event yet again’. [This version maintains the original meaning but uses simpler language and a more conversational tone.]
