Robbie Williams appears as a CGI MONKEY in first look at ‘fantastical’ biopic Better Man as new trailer sees singer’s life from school to the stage

As a diehard Robbie Williams fan since the days of Take That, I can hardly contain my excitement as I watch the trailer for Better Man! This fantastical biopic promises to take us on a journey through Robbie’s life, from his humble beginnings to his meteoric rise as one of the biggest pop stars in the world.

In the recently released trailer for his upcoming “fantastical” biopic titled Better Man, Robbie Williams made an appearance in a digitally created monkey form, which was unveiled on Wednesday.

50-year-old musician-composer has been developing this project since 2021, and it’s scheduled to hit theaters on Christmas Day (December 26).

In the opening scene, we catch a glimpse of character Robbie, portrayed by Jonno Davies, as he journeys from school days to the spotlight, accompanied by the tune of his popular song “Let Me Entertain You” playing softly in the backdrop.

In the voiceover, he explains: ‘I know what you’re thinking. What’s with the monkey?

Although I’m known as one of the most prominent pop stars globally, I’ve often viewed myself as having a slightly lower level of development.

As I step into the shoes of a younger Robbie, the singer’s words echo from the voiceover, and later, I embody the older version of myself.

According to the director of The Greatest Showman, Michael Gracey, the film will feature Jake Simmance portraying Gary Barlow, Liam Head as Mark Owen, Jesse Hyde as Howard Donald, and Chase Vollenweider in the role of Jason Orange.

Sharing a first look to X, he captioned the video: ‘Based on a true story… ‘BETTER MAN’ – coming soon. Visit betterman.robbiewilliams.com/ for more info and global release dates.’

‘Better Man chronicles the incredible journey of Robbie Williams, a legendary British pop artist, from his meteoric rise to fame, through his tumultuous downfall, to his inspiring comeback – one of the most remarkable careers in entertainment history.’

In the imaginative leadership of Michael Gracey (of ‘The Greatest Showman’), this movie unfolds in a distinctive manner, focusing on the viewpoint of Williams, showcasing his characteristic humor and unbreakable determination.

The narrative traces Robbie’s path, starting from his childhood, progressing to his role as the youngest member of the chart-topping boyband Take That, further to his unprecedented accomplishments as a solo artist with record-breaking sales. Throughout this journey, he encounters and addresses the difficulties that often accompany immense fame and success.

Last year, filming for the biopic saw actors dancing on the streets of London clad in blue suits.

In the photos from the movie set, the actors participated in an exhilarating dance sequence on Regent Street that was full of energy.

The attire resembled what the band wore during their performance at the 1994 Brit Awards, where they played a medley of Beatles songs on stage.

Jonno, who is playing a young Robbie, sported a brown CGI suit for the shots.

In the upcoming Oscars next year, Robbie stands ready to compete alongside Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande for the Best Original Song award, given his work in the movie.

The star is set to submit his tune Forbidden Road to be considered for the 2025 Academy Awards. 

Nonetheless, he’ll encounter tough rivalry as Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande are expected contenders too, given their upcoming film contributions with “Joker: Folie à Deux” and “Wicked”.

According to a source who spoke to The Sun, Robbie is thrilled not only about showcasing his film globally, but also about attempting to win an Oscar.

confidently, Paramount plans to share the song with the public and advertise it using trailers and promotions. While there’s no absolute assurance, given his outstanding professional standing, success is likely.

They added: ‘Rob stands a great chance of being shortlisted at the Golden Globes too.
