Rob Reiner’s friend Maria Shriver reveals murdered director and wife ‘never stopped trying to be good parents’

Maria Shriver shared a moving and sad message after her friends, Rob and Michele Singer Reiner, were tragically killed in a stabbing over the weekend.

The 70-year-old journalist shared a touching remembrance of the couple, describing them as loving parents who always looked on the bright side of life. This came just hours after their son, 32-year-old Nick Reiner, was arrested as a suspect in their deaths.

After learning about the deaths of the famous director and his wife at their home in Brentwood on Sunday, Shriver released a heartfelt statement.

Shriver wrote about her deep connection with Michele and Rob Reiner, calling them among her closest friends. They shared many years together raising their children – from early playdates to supporting each other through all of life’s ups and downs, sharing laughter, tears, and dreams along the way.

She shared that the couple had recently been spending time together, saying, “They had dinner with us last week, and they seemed incredibly happy – truly loving each other, their friends, family, and country.”

As someone who observes families and public figures closely, I’ve always been struck by this couple’s dedication. What really stood out to me was their unwavering commitment – not just to their own family, but to making a real difference in the world. They truly believed in the potential of our country and were willing to work tirelessly to build a better future, and that’s something I deeply admire. They never lost faith, and always fought for the nation they loved.

She described her parents as incredibly loving and dedicated, always striving to be the best they could be.

Shriver expressed deep sorrow for those affected, saying she was heartbroken, shocked, and profoundly saddened, and that many who cared for and were cared for by them were feeling the same way.

In her heartfelt tribute, she wrote that she hoped people would remember them as incredibly talented, kind, fun-loving, and patriotic individuals who shared a deep love for each other. She expressed how much she would miss Michele and Rob, telling them she loved them both and thanking them for their friendship. She concluded by saying life wouldn’t be the same without them, and wished them God’s blessings.

Shriver’s post was met with an outpouring of support from friends and fans.

Emma Heming, Bruce Willis’ wife, offered her condolences to Maria, saying ‘I’m so sorry for your loss.’ Maria Shriver’s son, Patrick Schwarzenegger, simply reacted with a red heart emoji.

Jason Kennedy shared a message of support, saying he and others are sending extra love and prayers for peace to those grieving the loss.

People described the event as devastating and unbelievable. Many shared that Reiner was a well-loved figure in Brentwood, often seen around town and remembered as a kind, gentle giant.

Shriver’s tribute came shortly after reports broke that the couple’s son, Nick, had been arrested.

Police arrested Nick, age 32, in connection with the deaths of Rob Reiner, 78, and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, 68. The couple was found dead at their $13.5 million home in Brentwood.

Los Angeles police announced on Monday that Nick is considered responsible for the deaths of his parents.

Nick is in jail at Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles, unable to pay bail, while he deals with a substance use disorder.

People reports that firefighters were called to a home in Los Angeles around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday to help with a medical emergency. Unfortunately, they found two people had already died when they arrived.

Police in Los Angeles have confirmed that detectives from the Robbery-Homicide Division are now in charge of the investigation.

Later that day, police told the Los Angeles Times they were questioning a relative of the deceased. They haven’t shared any more information about how the deaths occurred.

According to a law enforcement source who spoke with the Associated Press, investigators think the couple died from stab wounds. Police haven’t yet revealed why this happened.

Their 28-year-old daughter, Romy Reiner, who lives close by, found her parents and called the police, according to previous reports.

Rob and Michele Reiner, who married in 1989, shared three children: Jake, 34, Nick, and Romy.

Reiner also adopted Tracy Reiner, 61, during his first marriage to the late Penny Marshall.

Nick Reiner has previously spoken publicly about struggles with substance abuse.

He shared on a 2018 podcast that he once wrecked a guest house while high on drugs, explaining he’d been using uppers for days and was in a severely altered state.

The Reiner family has confirmed the deaths of Michele and Rob Reiner. In a statement, a family spokesperson said they are deeply saddened by this sudden loss and ask for privacy as they grieve.
