Rob Reiner’s final film release ‘paused’ after son Nick is charged with his and wife Michele’s brutal murders

The release of Rob Reiner’s last movie, Spinal Tap at Stonehenge: The Final Finale, has been put on hold after his unexpected passing.

Reiner and his wife were discovered stabbed to death in their bedroom at their home in Brentwood. Their youngest son, Nick, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve seen firsthand how easily life can take unexpected turns. This young screenwriter, just 32, has faced incredible hardship – battling addiction, mental health issues, and even periods of homelessness. Now, he’s facing incredibly serious charges that could lead to a life sentence, or even the death penalty if he’s found guilty. It’s a stark reminder that everyone deserves compassion and support, especially when they’re at their lowest point.

Bleecker Street, the company distributing the concert film in the U.S., has delayed its release, according to Variety.

According to a source, a decision has been postponed until Rob’s family and those closest to him can determine the best way to proceed.

This movie features Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, and Harry Shearer returning as the members of the mockumentary rock band Spinal Tap. They perform a concert at Stonehenge, and the film includes cameos by Shania Twain and Eric Clapton.

Rob Reiner first gained fame directing and acting alongside the band in the classic mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap in 1984. He later returned to the project for its sequel, Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, which was released in 2025.

Daily Mail have contacted Bleecker Street for comment.

Rob and Michele, along with their son, were guests at a Christmas party hosted by talk show host Conan O’Brien before they were tragically killed.

The friendly and lively party at O’Brien’s mansion in Pacific Palisades on Saturday night was suddenly disrupted by a heated argument.

A heated argument between famous director Rob Reiner and Nick startled other people nearby, with some believing Nick was under the influence of drugs.

Everyone else was dressed up, but he showed up in a worn hoodie and was acting strangely. One person who saw it said he was really disturbing and behaving erratically.

You know, as someone who spends a lot of time observing people, I once witnessed the most charming thing. The son of a very well-known director – his films include classics like ‘When Harry Met Sally,’ ‘A Few Good Men,’ ‘The Princess Bride,’ and ‘This Is Spinal Tap’ – was going around to strangers and simply asking them if they were famous. It was just adorable and perfectly captured a kid’s innocent perspective!

Comedian Bill Hader witnessed Reiner’s strange behavior directly. Reiner interrupted a conversation Hader was having with someone else, and when Hader politely pointed out it was a private discussion, Reiner just stared at him and then walked away angrily.

Rob, 78, and his wife, Michele, 70, spent the evening chatting with friends like actor Larry David and comedian Sarah Silverman. They left the party around midnight, and Jane Fonda noted they seemed to be in good spirits and good health.

It was uncertain if their son, who had recently returned to live in a guest house on the family’s Los Angeles property (valued at around £10 million), went with them when they left.

Although he claimed to have overcome his addiction, sources say the fight at O’Brien’s party actually started because his parents still believe he needs more treatment for drug use.

Nick apparently refused to go back to rehab, believing he could manage his treatment and recovery at home.

Friends say Rob was growing increasingly worried about his son, who has struggled with mental health issues and drug addiction (heroin and cocaine) for a long time. He was frightened that his son was using drugs again and feared what he might do, as his behavior was becoming more erratic.

I was absolutely shocked to hear the news. Just hours later, on Sunday afternoon, the Reiners were discovered at their home, tragically with their throats cut. The Daily Mail reported that witnesses believe they were actually in bed when it happened, meaning they may have been murdered while they were sleeping. It’s just…horrifying.

Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman stated Tuesday night that Nick will be charged with the murders of his parents. If convicted, he could face life in prison or the death penalty.

The defendant will be charged with two counts of first-degree murder, and prosecutors will seek a penalty due to the multiple victims. He’s also accused of using a knife as the weapon in the crime.

He added: ‘No decision at this point has been made with respect to the death penalty.’
