Rob Reiner’s Children Break Silence Following Director’s Death

Rob Reiner’s children are speaking publicly for the first time since their parents died on December 14th. The famous director, best known for films like Stand By Me, was found deceased alongside his wife, Michele, at their home in Brentwood.

On December 15th, Nick Reiner, the son of Rob and Michele Reiner, was arrested in connection with their murders. The following day, their children, Jake and Romy Reiner, released a statement expressing their profound grief. They described the loss of their parents as unimaginable and devastating, adding that Rob and Michele were not just parents, but their best friends.

I’ve been so touched by all the kind messages and support everyone has sent – it’s meant so much, not just from those who knew my parents personally, but from people everywhere. The kids asked everyone to please respect our privacy right now, and to remember Mom and Dad for the amazing lives they led and all the love they shared. They’re hoping people will be kind and compassionate, and avoid spreading rumors or speculation.

Nick Reiner Appeared in Court on Dec. 17

Nick Reiner appeared in court today after being accused of murdering his parents. He’s been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and prosecutors say he used a knife in the attacks. During the court appearance, Reiner appeared calm and a judge ordered him to remain in jail without bail until his next court date on January 7, 2026, according to CNN and the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Nick Reiner is being defended by attorney Alan Jackson, who has previously represented high-profile figures like Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey. Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman says Reiner faces a potential sentence of life in prison without parole, or even the death penalty. Hochman stated a decision regarding the death penalty will be made later. As the newly elected district attorney, Hochman has brought back the death penalty in Los Angeles County, reversing a state-wide pause that had been in place since 2019.

According to People magazine, Rob and Nick Reiner had a loud argument at a holiday party hosted by Conan O’Brien just before their deaths. Two sources said the father and son were arguing, and one described Nick as behaving erratically and repeatedly asking guests if they were famous.

Nick Reiner is being held without bail at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in L.A.
