As a devoted follower of Hollywood’s golden era, I find myself in awe of stories like Rob Lowe’s. The anecdote about getting pulled over for smoking marijuana with Michael J Fox is just another chapter in his extraordinary life experience. It’s fascinating to think that the young actors who dominated our screens in the 80s were not so different from us common folks, engaging in youthful mischief and living life on the edge.

60-year-old actor, known for his role in “The Outsiders,” shared stories of working alongside Tom Cruise. He reminisced about an incident from 1986 when they were both caught using drugs together on set.

On “Where Everybody Knows Your Name” podcast on Wednesday, Rob mentioned that there was a bus tour across California, focusing on Proposition 65 (aimed at improving our water system). Remarkably, it seemed as if everyone worldwide participated in this tour.

However, there were two distinct buses. We ended up getting stopped by the police due to speeding, but they also noticed that Michael J. Fox and I were smoking marijuana from the rooftop of the Greyhound bus. He confessed this later on.

And other A-listers were caught up in the drama.

The police officer stopped our vehicle, and it seemed as if a circus tent had popped open – out stepped Whoopi Goldberg, Cher, Judd Nelson, Michael J. Fox, Sarah Jessica Parker, Matthew Broderick, Robert Downey Jr., Jane Fonda, Danny Glover, the ex-member of the Brat Pack recalled.

Lowe admitted that their bus was stopped due to the fact that the emergency roof hatch was open. He also openly confessed, “Michael and I were smoking marijuana.”

After the event, the Youngblood star has openly discussed his battle with addiction during the 1980s.

He got sober in 1990 with the help of his makeup artist wife Sheryl Berkoff, who he married the following year. 

2021 saw an individual, who we’ll call the Unpredictable personality, confide to ET, “Here’s the thing, she might have actually been my lifesaver. In truth, I met her when I was at the tail-end of my reckless 80s phase as a wild youth, and she was worth altering my life for.”

He expressed that he felt incredibly fortunate for the event that transpired in his life. It’s possible that he himself had influenced this change, but it’s equally plausible that it was merely a possibility. As soon as they met, he realized that if he couldn’t succeed with her, then he would struggle to find success with anyone else. This refers to his current spouse.

And his battle as an alcoholic interfered with family emergencies at the time.

He recounted the incident as if it happened only a day ago: His mother urgently telling him to retrieve something because his grandfather had suffered a heart attack. He was seated with a bottle of tequila nearby.

In my current condition, I just couldn’t handle it, and I knew I had to rest and get some sleep. That way, when I woke up, I would be better equipped to tackle the issue.

The St. Elmo’s Fire star expressed that in that moment he knew he had gone too far.

“Rob stated, ‘Who among us doesn’t have a bottle of Cuervo Gold on their nightstand? That was the last alarm clock. Ever since then, I’ve been living a sober life.'”

Before his rise to fame, he crossed paths with his friend Michael J. Fox during the production of Family Ties in 1982. They eventually drifted apart until they reunited on the set of Bright Lights, Big City in 1988.
