Rob Brydon’s “oddly hypnotic” series set to return after 5-year break
The captivatingly quirky show titled The Trip, featuring Rob Brydon and Steve Coogan, is coming back on screen following a break of five years.
The sitcom features the two main characters portraying caricatures of themselves, embarking on global adventures through specific regions. In the initial four seasons, they indulge in food and drink excursions through England, Italy, Spain, and Greece sequentially.
Following their previous escapade in 2020, it’s been officially announced that Brydon and Coogan will join forces once more with director Michael Winterbottom for a fifth installment – named “The Trip to the Northern Lights” – where they embark on a journey through Scandinavia.
What to Read Next
According to the tagline (from Sky), the upcoming series spans six parts and will have the pair swap the warmth of the Mediterranean for the rugged charm of Northern Europe, embarking on a delightfully absurd adventure filled with exquisite cuisine, witty banter, and playful self-examination.
The show is being referred to as a blend of sitcom, travelogue, and self-discovery journey during midlife. It will portray the duo as they ponder over themes such as aging, ambition, family, and popularity. In addition to what’s mentioned in the synopsis, you can anticipate a variety of well-known character impersonations.
Brydon expressed his joy about going on a trip once more, this time to Scandinavia, in a recent statement. He added that it’s delightful to embark on this journey with Steve Coogan, Michael Winterbottom, as we all still retain much of our mental abilities.
Coogan expressed his joy about convincing him, at the age of 59, by Michael Winterbottom, to team up with Rob, who is also 60 years old. He mentioned that they were trying to extract the remaining humor from a comedy project they thought was almost exhausted.
Meghan Lyvers, head of Original Scripted at Sky UK and Ireland, expressed her enthusiasm about carrying on the renowned series featuring Brydon, Coogan, and Winterbottom. She described it as a unique mix of humor, character development, and social critique.
As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t contain my excitement about the news! The initial season of this series had one IMDb user calling it “unusually captivating,” while another found it to be “strangely heartwarming.” This show seems to offer a profound reflection on fame and ageing wrapped in an oddly compelling package.
The Trip to the Northern Lights will begin filming later this year.
