Rob Brydon, known for his role in Gavin and Stacey, is now a children’s author! He’s written a book based on his own red-haired cat and his family.
The actor and comedian revisited stories he used to tell his children and turned them into a rhyming book. Called The Cat in the Cupboard, it follows the adventures of a cat named Crumble and features illustrations by Ellie Snowdon.
Brydon’s new book is for children ages five to seven and features Crumble, a playful ginger cat. Each story follows Crumble as he goes on a new adventure in the garden after sneaking out through the cat flap. It’s been described as funny and lighthearted.
What to Read Next
This story follows Crumble, a brave cat, as he ventures into the garden of his greatest enemy to find his favorite lost toy. It’s a risky mission, as he’s entering dangerous territory!
Brydon explained that he chose to write the book in rhyme because the title, ‘The Cat In The Cupboard,’ simply had a pleasing sound and natural rhythm, as he told The Bookseller.

He explained that after creating these rhymes for fun, he thought they would make a wonderful children’s book.
I’ve always loved the musicality of language – creating songs for my performances, telling stories to my kids, and sharing beautiful books by authors like Shirley Hughes and Julia Donaldson.
I hope The Cat In The Cupboard sparks the imagination of everyone who reads it – both kids and the adults reading with them – and leads to some really enjoyable shared reading experiences.

Published by Puffin, the book can be pre-ordered now and will be available in stores on September 10th.
Puffin announced that Brydon’s writing is fun and uses playful rhymes, showcasing his unique style and passion for poetry.
Ellie Snowdon’s beautiful illustrations make Crumble’s world truly come alive. Her warm, funny, and detailed artwork perfectly shows off both the playful trouble and kind heart at the center of his stories.
In 2011, Brydon released his memoir, Small Man in a Book, a clever title referencing his famous ‘Small Man in a Box’ comedy routine.
You can now pre-order ‘The Cat in the Cupboard’ from digital stores like Amazon for £12.99.
The latest issue of Living Legends magazine is now available, and it’s a special tribute to Dolly Parton! You can find ‘Dolly at 80’ in shops that sell magazines or order it online for only £8.99.
