Amazon’s upcoming movie sequel has added seven new actors to its cast. Among them is Jay Hieron, a former mixed martial artist, who will return as Jax “Jetway” Harris, a UFC fighter he played in the original film.
The cast of Road House 2 is shaping up with several professional fighters joining the lineup, including Rico Verhoeven, Michael Chandler, Michael “Venom” Page, Dustin Poirier, Stephen Thompson, and Tyron Woodley. Ion Hieron is also returning, making him and Jake Gyllenhaal the only actors from the 2024 Road House film reprising their roles. They’ll be joined by previously announced cast members Leila George, Aldis Hodge, and Dave Bautista. Details about the roles of everyone except Gyllenhaal and Hieron haven’t been revealed yet.
There was a change in directors for the Road House sequel after disagreements between Amazon and the original remake’s director, Doug Liman. The remake proved popular, reaching over 80 million viewers worldwide in its first eight weeks on Prime Video, so Amazon quickly sought a well-known director to build excitement for the next installment. They initially chose Guy Ritchie, a respected action filmmaker, but he left the project soon after, reportedly due to a packed schedule. No official reason for his departure was given.
Shortly after Ritchie left the project, Amazon brought in Will Beall to write the script for the Road House sequel. This marks a second collaboration between the studio and Beall, following the recent Prime Video action comedy Heads of State, which starred John Cena and Idris Elba. Beall replaces Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry, who wrote the script for the Road House remake.
