Riverdale’s Camila Mendes exits ’90s horror reboot

As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for nostalgic reboots, I can’t help but feel a mix of anticipation and disappointment upon hearing Camila Mendes‘ departure from the ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ reboot. However, when I learned that she’ll be joining the cast of ‘Masters of the Universe’, my excitement for this mammoth production soared to new heights!

As a gaming enthusiast, I’d put it like this: “Hey there fellow gamers, I’ve got some news from the world of TV. Since I’m Veronica Lodge in Riverdale, you might recognize me as Camila Mendes. Well, guess who won’t be starring in the remake of the ’90s horror classic, I Know What You Did Last Summer? That’s right, it’s yours truly! Can’t wait to see how it turns out!”

Originally cast as a main character for the rebooted movie franchise, the actress known for portraying Veronica Lodge on The CW’s teen drama show, unfortunately, will not be able to participate in the project

As a dedicated fan, I’ve learned from Deadline that scheduling clashes surrounding the colossal Masters of the Universe reboot seem to be the cause for this recent development

The upcoming action sci-fi movie, derived from the ’80s toy series and multiple animated spin-offs, casts Mendes as Teela – the captain of Eternia’s royal guard and protector of Prince Adam/He-Man. Recently seen in projects like “Mary & George,” “Red, White & Royal Blue,” and “Bottoms,” Nicholas Galitzine will portray the title character

The movie “Masters of the Universe” has had a long and winding path. In the 2000s, Warner Bros. was working on it, but it went through various directors, screenwriters, and main actors at Sony during the 2010s. Netflix initially took over the project with Kyle Allen from “West Side Story” set to star as the lead, until Netflix decided to abandon it last year

Since then, the movie has been acquired by Amazon MGM, and since that time, directors Mendes and Galiztine have joined the project, along with Travis Knight, who is known for directing ‘Bumblebee’
