Riverdale star Lili Reinhart says ex ‘government worker’ suggested she should be sexually assaulted for voting for Kamala Harris

Lili Reinhart recently shared a disturbing experience with online harassment on X (formerly Twitter), owned by Elon Musk, which prompted her to quit the platform.

Maddie Ziegler, the 29-year-old actress from Riverdale, shared on Instagram that someone claiming to be a former government employee threatened her with sexual assault because of her opinions on politics. She revealed this to her 24 million followers.

The actress, originally from Cleveland, said she received threats after announcing her support for Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election, opposing Donald Trump.

Reinhart explained that she quit using X (formerly Twitter) in 2024 after receiving threatening messages, including rape threats, because of her support for Kamala Harris. She also mentioned that one of the individuals sending these messages had previously worked in government.

Daily Mail has reached out to reps for Reinhart for further comment on the story.

Actress Hal Harper discussed Elon Musk’s AI chatbot, Grok, after seeing a post about its potential for misuse. The chatbot has recently faced criticism for how it could be used for harmful purposes.

A bus stop advertisement featured a picture of Elon Musk, age 54, alongside the question: ‘Who would want to use social media that includes a tool enabling child abuse?’

The message encouraged people to delete their X accounts, prompting the actress – known for her roles in movies like Hustlers and Chemical Hearts – to share her own experience of leaving the platform.

After Trump won the election against Harris in November 2024, Reinhart publicly criticized him, pointing to the numerous sexual assault allegations he’d faced over the previous ten years.

Lila Reinhart expressed her disbelief and distress on X, stating she couldn’t understand how so many people voted for Donald Trump after hearing accusations of sexual assault against him. She described it as supporting an abuser.

‘My heart absolutely breaks for these women. I believe you, and I am so sorry.’

In October 2024, during the final weeks of the election campaign, Reinhart visited the White House to celebrate World Mental Health Day with President Biden and Vice President Harris.

The White House stated that the Biden-Harris Administration appreciates brave individuals, such as Lili Reinhart, who are working to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health, not just on World Mental Health Day, but every day.

If you’re going through a tough time with your mental health, please remember you’re not by yourself. We’re here to offer the help you need to feel better, get stronger, and live a fulfilling life.

In a video marking the event, Reinhart shared her ideas on how elected leaders can support the mental well-being of citizens.

Maddie Reinhart explained in a video from the White House that reducing the shame around mental health will encourage people to open up, and sharing their experiences can help them feel less isolated.

Reinhart added, ‘I think it’s very important to remove the idea of shame behind how we feel.

Looking back, I remember being so ashamed of my emotions when I was younger. I just didn’t get why I felt things, and it was really hard. Honestly, I used to be terrified of crying – I had no idea how to even begin to explain what was making me so upset.

Honestly, hearing Madelaine say that just got me. It’s like, she totally understands! What she said about needing to keep fighting so we can finally talk openly about not being okay, without feeling ashamed or like we have to hide… it’s everything. It’s exactly what I’ve been feeling and wanting to say for ages, and it’s amazing she’s using her voice to push for that. It’s not about being perfect, it’s about being real, and she gets it.

I truly believe we need to do more to support people’s mental health. It’s so important to remember that struggling with your mental wellbeing isn’t a sign of weakness or anything to be ashamed of – it’s simply being human.

Reinhart explained that experiencing anxiety, attention difficulties, obsessive-compulsive tendencies, unwanted thoughts, and sadness is actually quite common.

‘We’re just human, so let’s just be human,’ she said.

Okay, so like, Madelaine Reinhart just left Twitter – I mean, X now, ugh – and it’s seriously breaking my heart! She’s one of so many amazing people who’ve gotten off the platform ever since Elon Musk bought it over three years ago. It just feels like everyone’s leaving, and it’s awful!

Gigi Hadid was among the first celebrities to leave the platform in November 2022, stating she had disabled her account.

Hadid stated that the organization has increasingly become a source of hateful and prejudiced views, particularly under its current leadership, and she no longer wants to be associated with it.
