Riverdale alum Camila Mendes set to play iconic comic book heroine in new film

As a hardcore gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming live-action reboot of Masters of the Universe! The casting news about Camila Mendes as Teela and Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man has sent shockwaves through the gaming community.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Camila Mendes has been linked to portray Teela in Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films’ live-action adaptation of Masters of the Universe. She will be working alongside Nicholas Galitzine, who is 29 years old and will play the role opposite He-Man.

In May, it was revealed that Galitzine had been chosen for a role that’s just weeks before the release of “Bumblebee” and “Kubo and the Two Strings,” with Travis Knight, director of both those films, now set to direct “Masters of the Universe.”

I, Lili Reinhart, known for my role as Victoria Lodge on Riverdale, have been diving into the world of films lately, mostly playing supporting characters in projects like The New Romantic, The Perfect Date, and Palm Springs. However, I’ve recently shown that I can take the lead, as proven by my performance in the black comedy, Do Revenge.

The synopsis features a 10-year-old Prince Adam, who crashes to Earth in a spaceship. It reads as follows:

“Masters of the Universe tells the story of Prince Adam, who later transforms into He-Man. As a child, he arrives on Earth in a spaceship, only to return many years later to his native planet, which is under threat by the malevolent Skeletor. To vanquish this formidable foe, he must delve into his past and discover his true identity as He-Man, known elsewhere as the strongest man in the universe.”

For the first time in this recent phase of development, all parties involved have progressed significantly beyond the initial stage of choosing an actor to play He-Man following the live-action reboot of the franchise, which has been stuck in a creative rut for under twenty years. Previously, Galitzine, Noah Centineo, and then Kyle Allen were considered for the role of He-Man.

Previously, the screenplay’s early versions were penned by directors Aaron and Adam Nee, as well as David Callaham, Art Marcum, and Matt Holloway. Subsequently, Knight took over the directorial role.

The movie “Masters of the Universe” features Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man and Camila Mendes as Teela. Travis Knight takes charge of directing, while Chris Butler handles the screenplay. Escape Artists, along with Mattel Films, are producing, with distribution by Amazon MGM Studios.

By the power of Grayskull, Masters of the Universe will hit theaters June 5, 2026.
