Rivals season 2 spoilers follow.
The reality TV show Rivals is back with the first episodes of its second season, and it looks like we can expect plenty of drama this summer.
The new season of the Disney+ show immediately addressed last season’s big reveal: Sarah Stratton (Emily Atack) was expecting a baby. The question of who the father was has now been answered – it’s Lord Tony Baddingham (David Tennant).

Caroline Atack revealed to Digital Spy that she believes she was the one who suggested making Tony the father, although her co-star David Tennant thinks he came up with the idea.
David and I both thought we came up with the idea, but it seems we each believed it was originally our own. David then shared it with Dominic Treadwell-Collins, the executive producer.

I recall David and I discussing this – I actually mentioned it at Felicity Blunt’s birthday party. We had a quick conversation about it, like, ‘Yeah, that could work!’ Maybe we both had the same idea, and David then shared it with Dominic.
Her on-screen husband, Rufus Jones, played by Paul Stratton, simply explained that the show’s format allowed for good ideas to be used, saying, “A good idea’s a good idea.”
“Yeah, I just think it works. A little twist,” Atack agreed.

The actress clearly has a good understanding of her colleague, as David Tennant recently joked to Digital Spy that he was involved in planning the surprising paternity reveal.
He admitted he wasn’t sure if he should share this, but believes he originally suggested the storyline. He explained that the script for the last season already included the character being pregnant, and he immediately thought it should be revealed that Tony was the father, especially since he’d quickly helped her get a presenting role.
I just naturally thought it would work, and I suggested it, assuming they’d already considered it. But they hadn’t!
“Listen, other people may dispute that version of history,” he added, laughing.
