As a lifestyle expert with over three decades of experience, I must say that the latest series “Rivals” is not just another run-of-the-mill drama. It’s a masterclass in storytelling and character development, brilliantly brought to life by an exceptional cast. The intimate scenes between Aidan Turner and Victoria Smurfit are tastefully executed, demonstrating a level of comfort and camaraderie that only comes from seasoned professionals.

Friend and co-star Victoria Smurfit and Rivals star Aidan Turner have shared that they immersed themselves deeply in their more sensual scenes together.

In the Disney+ series, a 41-year-old Irish actor portrays Declan O’Hara, a journalist, alongside Victoria, aged 50, who plays his on-screen spouse Maud. This means that in the show, they appear as husband and wife characters.

In Rivals, there are plenty of explicit moments, as the married couple Declan and Victoria both appear nude.

In an interview with The Sunday Times, Aidan shared that he and Victoria were completely comfortable with their intimacy. He expressed his admiration for Victoria, calling her “a legend” and stating that she’s more like a friend to him, someone he deeply cares about.

Aidan acknowledged that they jumped right in without giving it much thought, and he mentioned Victoria had no idea about the presence of intimacy coordinators until they both showed up on the filming location.

The Poldark star said: ‘It’s technical but you do have to have a sense of fun about it as well, it can’t just be laborious.

‘It’s like a dance. There are 50 hairy men hanging around with cameras.’

His confession follows the disclosure that a group of younger authors on Rivals advocated for the elimination of the groping scene in the eight-part Disney adaptation, which subsequently occurred.

In the story of Rivals, a moment that sent chills down viewers’ spines occurred as Dame Jilly Cooper’s character, the dark-haired Casanova Rupert Campbell Black, reached under 19-year-old Taggie’s skirt.

Dominic Treadwell-Collins, the show’s chief producer and scriptwriter, mentioned: ‘We had numerous discussions about portraying the uncomfortable scene between Taggie and Rupert on screen, and ultimately decided it was appropriate to depict it. In our writers’ room, we carefully worked out how best to handle this situation.’

A few of the younger authors expressed, ‘It’s inappropriate to include that scene since we don’t want Rupert and Taggie to end up together given his history of inappropriate behavior towards her.’

We agreed that he needs to adapt, this element should be retained, as it reflects the 80s and those individuals.

The adaptation of “Rivals” has received broad acclaim for its faithful adherence to Dame Jilly’s initial narrative, refusing to soften the harsh realities of the pre-MeToo ’80s.

Alex Hassell, aged 44, portrays Rupert Campbell Black, a Conservative Member of Parliament. He develops affection for Taggie, played by 26-year-old Bella Maclean, the fictional daughter of Declan O’Hara, a journalist character brought to life by Aiden Turner from Poldark.

In an interview for the Rivals podcast, EastEnders writer Mr. Treadwell-Collins explained that in their writing team they aimed to have a diverse mix of ages, sexual orientations, and racial backgrounds, and actively explored various combinations of these elements.

‘We can look at it like a period piece and celebrate the eighties but also judge them a bit.’

In response to the touchy subject, Hassell shared with Grazia that the series highlights the significant progress made since that time. He emphasized its significance for the development of the character and his relationship with Taggart.

It’s not avoidable to acknowledge that Rupert initially appears as a complete jerk in the first two episodes. However, his character should undergo some change or development to make him less obnoxious later on in the series.

Supporters are urging Disney+ to produce another season, as the series concluded with a nail-biting cliffhanger, leaving one character’s fate uncertain.

Many viewers have developed a fond affection for the show, and they’ve confessed to watching all eight episodes within just a few days.

Wow, I just finished Rivals and it was fantastic! It wasn’t my usual type of show, but I couldn’t stop watching. I sure hope there will be a second season!

The program has been labeled as a “romantic thriller” and Disney’s most sensual series yet, garnering an impressive 93% rating on the Tomatometer.

According to Jane Fryer from The Mail, this eight-episode series received a perfect five-star rating. She also shared that the show starts off with an abundance of adult content, humor, and clever wit that is so engaging, viewers may find themselves unable to look away.
