Rita Ora had said it was a ‘real eye opener’ becoming a step mum to husband Taika Waititi’s kids.
The 35-year-old singer married director and actor Taika in 2022, becoming a stepmother to his two daughters, Te Kāinga o te Hinekāhu, 13, and Matewa Kiritapu, 9.
Rita recently shared how becoming a stepmother shifted her outlook on life, in a candid discussion about her family.
Rita told The Sun that while she considers the job straightforward, it’s also given her a new appreciation for everything life has to offer.
It’s a simple routine. We all wake up and exercise together – even the kids get involved, running on the treadmills, making it a fun family activity.
It’s been really insightful to realize that life often has more to offer than just what you’re currently focused on.
‘I’ve realised there’s so much more, so [becoming a stepmum] did give me that.’
Fifty-year-old film director Taika Waititi shares two children with his ex-wife, Chelsea Winstanley, also 50. The couple separated in 2018 after being married for seven years.
Rita recently opened up about her marriage to Taika Waititi and showcased her incredible physique in a beautiful photoshoot for Hunger magazine.
Rita credited their strong friendship as the key component to their romantic relationship.
We’re really close friends, Taika and I, and we just wanted to maintain that comfortable, easy relationship indefinitely, I suppose.
Rita surprised everyone by proposing, and the couple then had a private wedding ceremony in August 2022.
The couple’s quiet wedding in Los Angeles wasn’t publicly announced until a year afterward. Rita later shared with Grazia magazine that they ‘just went for it’ with absolutely no planning.
Rita described her twenties as a period of difficult relationships, but meeting Taika felt comfortable and secure, like she’d finally found the right person.
The pair started dating in March 2021, before going public with their romance that August.
Prior to their romantic relationship, Rita and Taika were close friends for five years.
Before Taika, Rita romanced a string of big names, starting back in her pre-fame years.
Before becoming famous, Rita Ora dated Bruno Mars when she was 18, and she later described it as love at first sight.
‘We met in 2009. I was 18 and starting out at Roc Nation. Bruno was unknown back then too.
I hired him as a songwriter, and at the time, I was incredibly impressed by how kind and talented he was.
Following her relationship with Bruno, the singer briefly dated Rob Kardashian, a reality TV star, for two months starting in October 2012. They ended things because of her busy work life and differences in how they lived.
She later dated several well-known figures, including DJ Calvin Harris, musician Andrew Watt, and Ricky Hilfiger, son of fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger.
Rita has had brief romantic relationships with rapper A$AP Rocky, actor Andrew Garfield, and musician Travis Barker.
