If you enjoyed shows like Bridgerton and classic novels like Wuthering Heights, you should definitely check out the upcoming series Madfabulous. It’s a unique historical drama based on the real-life story of Henry Cyril Paget, the Marquess of Anglesey, who was known for his love of dancing.
The film Madfabulous will have its world premiere at the BFI Flare: London LGBTQIA+ Film Festival (March 18-29) before being released in UK cinemas on June 5th.
The film, directed by Celyn Jones and written by Lisa Baker, features Callum Scott Howells (known from It’s A Sin) as Henry Cyril Paget. The cast also includes Ruby Stokes (Bridgerton), Louise Brealey (Sherlock), Siobhán McSweeney (Derry Girls and The Traitors Ireland), Tom Rhys Harries (The Gentlemen), and Rupert Everett.
What to Read Next
Madfabulous is a lively and bold story that embraces individuality. It follows Henry Paget, who travels from France to North Wales in the 1890s to take possession of his family’s estate.
Okay, so I’m playing this game where I’m Paget, the Fifth Marquess, and honestly, things are complicated. I’m trying to make a name for myself, but my family’s history is a mess – my dad basically abandoned us. Plus, I’m not exactly fitting in with the fancy upper-class crowd; I’ve got my own style, let’s say, and they’re not thrilled about it. Luckily, I’ve got my cousin Lily and my trusty butler, Gelert, helping me navigate all the drama while I try to figure out who I am, separate from my dad’s legacy.

I’m so excited for BFI Flare this year! I just heard about a film called Madfabulous – it’s one of 31 movies having its world premiere at the festival. They’re showing a ton of great stuff – 65 feature films and 62 shorts, all from 47 different countries! As a BFI Member, I can snag tickets starting Tuesday, February 24th, but they go on sale to everyone else on Thursday, February 26th.
This year’s festival features several exciting events, including a conversation with Russell T Davies about his successful career and new Channel 4 series, Tip Toe. The festival will begin with the world premiere of the documentary Hunky Jesus and conclude with the UK premiere of the romantic film Black Burns Fast.
Regarding his role in Madfabulous, Howells expressed his excitement, saying it’s a privilege to play Henry in a story celebrating the man and his legacy. He described Henry as a compelling and unconventional figure who has inspired artists for generations.
The film Madfabulous will have its first public screening at the BFI Flare festival, taking place from March 18th to 29th, and will then be available in UK cinemas starting June 5th.
The latest issue of Living Legends, a vibrant 100-page tribute to Taylor Swift, is now available! You can purchase it at newsstands or online for only £8.99.
