Riot Games EMEA is partnering with Movember to offer mental health support for players and staff. They’ll be working together on programs designed to promote well-being.
It’s often difficult to discuss mental health within the esports world. However, Movember is partnering with Riot Games EMEA to change that. They’ll be working closely with the League of Legends EMEA Championship (LEC), the VCT, and Game Changers EMEA to start important conversations about wellbeing.
Movember x Riot Games EMEA
Riot Games EMEA and Movember, a global men’s health organization, have announced a long-term partnership starting January 20th. Beginning in the 2026 and 2027 seasons, they will work together to improve mental health support and wellbeing for players and staff across European esports leagues, creating new resources and programs.
The foundation will provide teams with support to cope with the demands of competition. This includes resources for building positive routines and encouraging honest discussions about mental wellbeing, for both players and staff.
Daniel Ringland, head of VALORANT Esports EMEA, explained that the partnership aims to give everyone involved in the VALORANT esports community the resources they need, backed by professional support focused on creating a positive environment.
Over the course of the season, we’ll be launching several programs to support our players. These include training to improve mental well-being, discussions led by players themselves about dealing with pressure and building resilience, and ongoing resources for the entire esports community.
Throughout Movember’s broadcasts, you’ll see messages about the importance of mental health. The goal is to get people talking openly and reduce the shame often associated with these kinds of conversations.
As a big fan of Game Changers, I’m really excited to hear that Riot is teaming up with Movember! They’re planning to work together on things like workshops or discussions, using Movember’s knowledge to help support the awesome players in the EMEA region. It’s great to see them prioritizing player wellbeing and development!
Mental health in esports
Honestly, it feels like we don’t talk enough about mental health in esports. A lot of us pros start really young, and it’s tough. We’re thrown into this high-pressure world and expected to deal with a lot emotionally, but we haven’t always had the chance to learn how to cope with all that yet.
Within a team, players often deal with issues like poor communication, disagreements, and negative or disruptive behavior. A recent study by Jolan Kegelaers and colleagues, focusing on mental well-being in esports, specifically pointed out these difficulties.
These programs are vital for supporting athletes and team personnel in dealing with the intense demands of professional sports, and for lowering the chances of developing mental health problems like anxiety and depression.
