Rings of Power star on repeatedly being cast in “creepy” roles

As a gamer who’s been through countless hours of immersive fantasy worlds, I can’t help but feel a profound connection to Morfydd Clark’s journey as an actress. Her knack for portraying complex and enigmatic characters has undeniably resonated with me, reminding me of the quirky NPCs I’ve encountered in my gaming escapades.

Actress Morfydd Clark from “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” shares insights into her acting journey, noting that she often lands characters perceived as “unsettling.”

The actress who portrays Galadriel on the Amazon Prime Video series gained broader recognition in 2019 with her performance in the psychological horror film “Saint Maud.” Subsequent roles as Mina Harker in BBC’s “Dracula” and the upcoming “Starve Acre” have further solidified her standing within the genre.

In a conversation with The Guardian, Clark discussed her penchant for playing offbeat and unusual characters, expressing: “It’s quite an honor to consistently be chosen to play characters that are truly peculiar.”

“I hadn’t realized that was the impression I was conveying. In many instances where I give a kiss, it feels very melancholic. It’s intriguing though, as I seem to have an eerie, unsettling aura that suits such roles well.”

“I find those roles incredibly entertaining. It’s fortunate that I’ve had the opportunity to portray both unsettling and somewhat disturbing female characters. Maud, for instance, is quite unpleasant and engages in peculiar activities. However, there’s a unique sense of liberation when I’m enacting such roles.”

As a devoted admirer, I’d like to share with you some insights from Clark, who graced our screens in “His Dark Materials”. In an exclusive interview, she delved deeper into her feelings about her professional journey. Remarkably, she admitted that even amidst the shock of her current prosperity, there lingers a tinge of self-questioning.

It’s still quite unbelievable, the sense of unreality that comes with being in your 30s as an actor. You continue to grow and evolve in your craft, but at times you find yourself thinking, “Wow, this actually happened. I must be here now.” Weekly moments of self-doubt persist, even today. This is just part of being an actor, and yes, I’m quite neurotic, always fearing that it might all come to an end tomorrow.

The first season of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” is currently available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video. The second season will premiere on Thursday, August 29th.
